"a) is Eddie Murphy done? b) if not, how would you fix him?"

http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=imaginethat.htm

that movie is gonna make about 9 milli total dawg. You kidding me? Just a few years ago wasn't he pegged for a pseudo-comeback following Dreamgirls and his Oscar nod? It looks like it's a wrap for the boy Eddie.

Could he turn it around if he came back and did some raw standup again? Should he just lay low for a minute and try to come back on a serious tip about two years from now?

What say you?

well, there's really nothing wrong with the movies he's done. they're just not what WE want him to be in. but what about the roles HE likes.

he may just feel like. "I've proven myself on the comedy tip, the stand-up tip, even the R-rated movie tip... now i'll just chill and do it fo' da kids!"

He needs to lose his family (divorce, not death) - all his money - and all of his friends.

THEN he'll regain the Eye of The Tiger and come back strong.

Ice Cube needs this to happen too.

he gets paid 30 mill for every "Shrek" joint. So he's got plenty of dough.

and he got busted "giving somebody a ride" *cough*tranny*cough* and kept his family AND somehow kept his image intact.

he gets every single funny working black comedian at the time and put them in one movie. I heard he was working on a project that would be like a black Ocean's 11. That would be hot.

He's still a good charming actor and he still has high name recognition (mostly thanks to the Shrek series at this point, really), so these bombs will continue getting cranked out.

If Bill Condon ever gets that Richard Pryor movie starring Eddie completed, we'll be talking "comeback" again.

Until then, look forward to A Thousand Words, the wacky PG-rated flick where Eddie Murphy is cursed and only can say a thousand more words before he dies!

He's 20 mil or bust, and no R-rated comedy is gonna pay 20 mil for Eddie Murphy currently. Studio heads, however, would love to pay 20 mil to have him be their star for the PG-rated remake of THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, DURKA DURKA DURRRRRRRR.

I don't mean an HBO special either. I mean just going up late place nights and working shit out. I don't know if he could do it without it becoming a big deal, but if he got out of the city maybe he could do it.

His life is pretty funny. Post huge success.

The fame, trannygate, his kids, divorce, being in the Hollywood machine. He has a huge well to draw from.

He has to just want to do it.

Plus a few more serious dramatic roles here and there. Give the man some new ground to break, instead of going back to the old wells.

The return to stand-up idea sounds good on paper, but what everyone is refusing to consider is the possibility that he might not be so good at it anymore.

i'm no fan of his work since Boomerang, but i get it....if he does a movie he cares about (Harlem nights, Dreamgirls) he doesn't get the love he feels he's due...i mean, look at how mad he initally was about the oscar thing....i can't blame the guy for not worryin about making anything the critics will like. end of the day, for him it's about taking the big checks, keepin it movin and treatin hollywood like what it is: a way to make sure his fam stays wealthy...

i don't see why he should take the route of less money to appease his old fans, who are fickle as shit anyway....the funniest thing is, most of these recent movies would be str8 to video if eddie wasn't involved...the thought that studios think these movies will work is interesting alone...

and i bet every single one of those "flops" did numbers abroad. i don't care enough to google it but i'm sure his name is still huge overseas. studios aren't just gonna keep giving the muhfucka paper like that yr in + yr out unless they're making that shit back in some kind of way.

the "waaaaaah eddie sux now" thing is starting to reach nas/illmatic levels. accept that the guy isn't yr cup of tea anymore, pop yr "delirious" dvd in the deck and move on already. it's been like a decade or so since the guy PUBLICLY STATED that he wants to do movies that his kids can watch. WE'RE NOT HIS TARGET AUDIENCE ANYMORE. GET OVER IT. your lil' cousins n'em love shrek + daddy day care + all that shit.

shit, i haven't even seen an eddie murph flick in the last decade, not since the life/bowfinger era. and i'm *perfectly fine* with that. learn how to outgrow artists gracefully, ppl, yr life will be more content and less stressful.

Perry, to his credit, has never given us a Raw. He could conceivably do some top notch stuff.

Eddie on the other hand has been to the top of the mountain, and how cares little for it.

But as long as the dollars keep rolling in? Cause he got a whole village to feed....

Murphy already said he wants to do film for 2-3 yrs and then return to stand up.

He's been at this for 20+ yrs and he has more than established his mark on the movie industry and if he is starting lose some of his luster them it's ok because his run has been historic.

...but! they would if he'd do something worthwhile. he did dreamgirls and people were back on the train for a minute. then he made norbit.

people love eddie when he does something great. be it a raunchy R-Rated comedy, or a dramatic turn like in Dreamgirls.

he can get it back with one good role. he just needs to get that role.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 will make enough loot just off the nostalgia.

He needs to start making fun of himself and do stand-up again as Zoo said.

i dunno how it works. do stand-up comics need to practice every now and then to keep their skills? or is it like riding a bike? will it just come back to them? or is it a natural talent that can't be 'lost'?

fuck you.
