"why is it ok to show a woman in full nudity in films but not men?"
I have always wondered this since I was a kid. I have my reasons why this is so but I've never heard anyone address this issue...not any actors/actresses...not any directors....or anyone in Hollywood for that matter.

No really of course the obvious answer is this is still a sexist society and put simply a lot of straight guys just don't want to see dong on the big screen, not for art's sake, not ever.
There are plenty of other countries like that at various levels, but since American movies make so much money...
I really don't see that changing any time soon, not in this country...it's about the same now as it was thirty years ago...

that's true but I'm still surprised you don't hear any women's groups claiming sexism or someone in mainstream media address this matter. This has been the norm in most films since I can remember and even today when there is more nudity in movies than ever before you still see women fully nude but not men.

But I agree with you, there is a double standard. Any time a movie has full-frontal nudity it's gross, but any time an actress gets buck nekkid then she wins an Oscar.

I mean although cock is rare I can think of 5 films right off the top of my head (Brown Bunny, Bad Lieutenant, Forgetting Sarah Marshell, The Watchmen, Boogie Nights) no problem and I know I could think of some more. Where as with vag Basic Instinct is the only one for sure, don't remember if Species had vag in it. But breasts are almost the only thing shown most times b/c vag is kinda offensive to a lot of ppl as is cock. Plus in our society we worship the female body much like Greek and Roman society worshiped the male body.

the second reason is that women do not really want to see a "flaccid" penis, it don't do nothing for them really. If films have trouble showing a flaccid penis, they for damn sure won't show an erect one, which women would prefer to see.

Yes actually 99% of movies outside of porn will not show the vagina apart from public hairs, but...
Idunno if that's it.
It's not like 'well no one's interested in seeing a penis if it isn't erect, so why bother...'
If not now, then I know there at least used to be laws/rules that you absolutely CAN NOT show an erect penis in films, not in U.S. movies anyway.
Apart from non-porn, and this includes softcore--I can only think of two cases of this: Lie With Me--a Canadian film--and Catherine Breiullet's Anatomy of Hell.
I don't know, I'd imagine that sometimes the censors balk at showing erect nipples too.
I mean I won't suggest that I know exactly what kind of movie nudity turns on the average woman. But I also think most of the people making movies largely don't give a damn.

Shit, isn't that basically what Apatow said? He said it's ridiculous that people are offended, and basically, he just finds it funny. Add to that the other stuff (the dick being utilitarian and not all that great to look at, sexism by the people controlling this shit, American attitudes on the depiction of sexuality) and I think you have all the reasons.
But shit, even in something like Any Given Sunday, you know they had that locker room scene with the idea of using that as comic relief.

The only scene in recent memory that had full frontal nudity effectively used in a way that didn't provoke laughter was Eastern Promises... and even then, teenagers were all giggly.

Women? If you want to see no female nudity at all, you have to avoid a great deal of R-rated movies, and that includes several of the Oscar Nominated ones.

If you know a girl that hasn't seen female nudity in some film, it probably means she doesn't watch R movies at all and almost never watches movies made in Europe.

I am new to this site, but this forum caught my eye. I remember this question being asked on a TV show a long time ago and the response was that the male anatomy is considered pornographic because of it's pronounced nature. I hope that makes sense... With women you really don't see much unless she literally opens her legs for the camera to show you all her glory.
