23. "Jennifer Aniston isn't box office numbers"
In response to Reply # 2

All her films that were successful have been b/c of her co-star. None of the film sshe did during her friends years that depended on her star-power did all that well in theaters and anything since those years have been clearly influenced by who else was in the movie (The only exception is The Break-up and that was her riding off the sympathy ppl had that she got the ol switch-a-roo)

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?view=Actor&id=jenniferaniston.htm

Brad Pitt isn't always consistent in the box office but at the same time not all the roles he does are him in the main role (Babel)and not all of them have the same distribution and marketing (The Assassination of Jesse James vs. Ocean's Eleven). But he's done some big numbers several times and it's safer to say he's better to have in your film than Jennifer Aniston

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?id=bradpitt.htm

Jolie on the other hand is kinda in between those 2 but when given huge marketing and distribution she usually pulls through (Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is probably the best example of her not pulling through but there were tons of other celebrities in that film that didn't as well so you can't blame just her)

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?view=Actor&id=angelinajolie.htm

as of lately, the past 3 roles Brad had been in were good, but not good for 2nd viewing. I can't sit through Jesse James, Burn After Reading or Benjamin Button again, I even like all 3 joints. I don't feel like it needed to be watched again. As for this movie, I'll watch but I don't know about the reply value. It seem different for a QT movie, but we just have to see.

He better be hoping for Kill Bill type homage though, and not Death Proof type homage. There's a fine, fine line between bad and fun, and bad and terrible. Kill Bill mostly works for me, Death Proof was an abortion.

I really, really, REALLY don't wanna sit through a long, bad movie of Tarantino's again. I'm hoping it's good for that reason alone.

remember he used to brag about how he doesn't have to have stars in his movies. its all about the right character for the right part.

now?

his career is so down at this point,

he got brad pitt, was trying to get Leonardo, got Michael Myers in it.

he need them numbers.

Tarantino's name alone doesn't bring it anymore.

It's selling-out to have stars in your film now? Are you retarded? #1 Name 1 filmmaker who's considered a great who didn't have a big name star in any of their films? Everyone from Godard to Kubrick to Jarmusch has big names in their films. 2nd how is his career so low? This is one of the most anticipated films of the year, just b/c Grindhouse wasn't huge doesn't mean it bombed and let's not forget that Kill Bill was his film before that, which was huge.

He doesn't need big-names stars to sell his movies, his fan-base is big enough to sell just on his name. But going with that he's always had big name stars in his films and this one was suppose to have even more big name stars in it but he changed the casting throughout pre-production. Originally Arnold, Stallone, Adam Sandler, Mickey Rourke and a few others were suppose to be in this film when he started writing it in the late 90's early 2000's but couldn't finish the script so he did Kill Bill instead.

Don't talk shit just b/c you don't like this guy's film, I mean nothing u said is true or remotely close to reasonable opinion.

I think QT likes ensemble casts, just to mix it up...like using "obvious" samples. "Look what actors I got to have a convo about _______". They could be popular, obscure, out-of-work, etc...but it's always been kind've a fun aspect of his movies.

Maybe there's a smidgen of "crutch" somewhere in there, I wouldn't necessarily disagree.

Travolta was MIA, Samuel L was shooting upward, Bruce Willis was pretty much the only "star".

He used Harvey Keitel for some weight, but that could be a.) Acting chops and admiration, b.) Gave the movies a sense of "gangster validity", or c.) A bit of both.

Foxy Brown - He had a right to use Samuel L, but Pam Grier? Michael Keaton? I'd say DeNiro was star power, but who wouldn't want to work with DeNiro? I'm sure he worked with him for every single reason anyone would.

Kill Bill? The biggest star in there was c-list, at best.

His use of actors is more wink, wink territory, and I'm not a fan to the degree where I'd cop pleas for the man. I'm merely building.

This new movie? Brad Pitt...Leo...I can't call it. I mean, Brad's been dope to me since Snatch and the Oceans movies, and has def moved beyond (almost out of) "pretty boy star power". His character on here doesn't seem like he'll be posing for the camera.

Leo's stepped it up over the years, as well, and this movie doesn't seem like it's for the Titanic crowd. Again, not sticking up for him, but I always liked his mix-up of actors and characters. It was always fun to see what he's going to do with who.

Especially in the casting of David Carradine in Kill Bill. But I don't think it's a crutch b/c their characters are always a little deeper in his films (Since most of the wink wink casting comes from good bad films or cult classic, both of which leave a lot to be desired character development wise and defiantly dialogue most times).

But I think you read that posting that was brought back from the summer that talked about Leo being in it and it's not true. He was rumored at one point but I think declined or was rethought.

I think Brad Pitt is good for the part, as far the accent everyone is complaining about. I don't see what the big deal is. he was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Missouri and if you listen to how he talks in real life he still has a slight accent.

I mean he's one of the worst filmmakers making movies currently. But I don't see his character requiring too much real acting, pretty sure he's just a quiet psychopath waiting to kill, so smirking and grinning is all he needs to do.

Thus, there could be a "black people are the original Jews" dialogue in the movie...

Leading to a post in PTP AND GD...both going plat.

So, it'll all work out.
