over the past 3 weekends, I have watched the first 2 seasons of Dexter, the first 2 seasons of Big Love (now watching Season 3 on HBO), and am currently watching Entourage (I'm on Season 3 Part 2). I'll probably be done with Entourage by the weekend, so I need something new to watch. Any suggestions besides The Wire, which I've seen too many times.....

Yeah, I really liked Pushing Daisies a lot. It is/was definitely my type of humor. I will admit though, that it occasionally felt like it was starting to get a little stale the last few episodes. I didn't want to see it cancelled though. I think they just needed to give it a chance to get out of its' slump. I still consider it a great show though.

Do you mean Wonderfalls? I actually got into it about a year after Fox cancelled it. It was actually a decent little series. It took about 2 or 3 eps for me to really like it though.

And it comes out next tuesday? Yes!! According to DLM's wiki page, they may even bring the series back, if the direct-to-dvd movie does well, I'm guessing. I need to buy 5 copies then!!!

Maybe because I watched it so quickly but I got burnt out after season 1. But I'm going to put season 2 at the top of my queue since you guys recommened it.

At least 22 times, we heard Veronica mention that Lilly was her best friend, the Kanes this, the Kanes that, etc. It got tiresome to me. That and the extreme wide angle lenses were the only negatives in Season 1. I loved it. But back to the repetitive summarizing of the same info, I think it's scaled way down in Season 2 which is as good or maybe better because of the voice-over and more appealing cinematography to me. Writing, directing, and character stuff are all excellent.

I only enjoyed the last couple episodes the first time around. The second time around I enjoyed it a bit more, but I think it's because I had severe withdrawal. I dunno.

but you weren't in the VMars Season3 Thread in PTP. I was obnoxious with my hate. To the point where people were like "Why do you even watch the show anymore?"
At that point I was really hoping for a return to Season 1 or 2 glory. I thought it might happen. My hope was blind. I didn't praise a single episode until the final 2 or 3.

I started watching it the first season, and got pissed at all the cliffhangers and unanswered questions. So now I'm just gonna wait until the series is done, and watch it all so I don't have to worry about waiting for a new season to start to get my questions answered.....

(Dexter and Wire are also at the top of my list of favorites, but you've seen them)
I'm a huge David Simon fan but still I never expected to be *this* engaged by a war show. It's totally character driven, which is what makes The Wire great, and if you suffer from withdrawal after you finish watching it (as I did), you can buy & read the book by Evan Wright (as I did).

I was really impressed with the first two seaons, season two in particular. We're about to start season three which I've heard is good but a bit of a let down after the first two seasons. I'll report back.
I also agree with the other votes for Generation Kill and Band of Brothers. Burn Notice is a delightful guilty pleasure in the middle of it's third season on USA. The writing is excellent and it's unique in that it has a story arc spanning 3 seasons at this point along with the weekly plot of Michael Westin being one of the coolest spies ever.

I re-purchased the dvd set so that Mr W and I could watch it together. I KNEW he would love it. I mean, I loved the show but I think of it as catering particularly well to men. The first person to rave about it to me was a guy I used to work with who was a history buff. Then one of my best friends who loves architecture and set decoration started going off on it and how much he wanted to live in one of the houses that's featured prominently.
Mr W said that he was surprised how much he liked it. I think he was expecting it to be boringly historical instead of lively and entertaining and sexy and funny and smart and beautiful and detailed and so forth. As well as being historically accurate.
The benefit of the dvds is that there's an interactive program that gives you subtitled notes on the historical basis for stuff. Like someone will make an offering to a household god and there'll be a little blurb at the bottom of the screen about household gods in Rome, or there'll be a mention of public works and there's a blurb on the aqueduct and a "click here" for more information.
I slept on the first 2 seasons of this way back when. Thankfully, I was able to catch up before season 3 started. I've been hooked ever since. This is an awesome show. I wrote it off as fluff until I actually gave it a chance. It goes a lot deeper than you might think. And watching it on DVD is so much better than week to week.

I think I'm gonna start off with Oz, then it'll be a toss up between Six Feet Under or Mad Men. Also I'll probably start watching Rome since its on On Demand right now, don't have to worry about renting the DVDs.....

the first three seasons are all classic, anthony anderson is THE man in the fourth season, five and six are decent but short, and season seven is oooooooooweeeeeeeee!

Best cop show ever on tv. The best ensemble acting on television. So far ahead of the curve, only The Wire caught up. There isn't enough time or space to go into how awesome this show was.
