Homey, Next Generation squad vs. Deep Space 9 squad is the only matchup here worth having. Janeway's hard and all, but her crew is shakey dog. Archer's probably the most gangster captain outta the whole bunch, but he's just outgunned tech-wise.

Here's the real question, though. In a Next Generation vs. Deep Space 9 face-off, which team will Worf and O'brien play for, and how does that tip the scales? What time-frame are we talking about? For instance, is Picard working pre-Borg assimilation or not?

fka nope

he was on that show first, same with O'brien

The combo of Worf and Odo would murder just about any team.
Odo alone kinda topples Deep Space nine in their favor
and I think Garak used to be the cardassian solid snake or some shit lke that.

He was easily my favorite character on DS9. This right here is the GOAT Garek quote.

Bashir: Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?
Garak: My dear Doctor, they're all true...
Bashir: Even the lies?
Garak: Especially the lies

As an aside, the same exchange played out in an episode of BSG between Baltar and Six. I thought it was effin' hilarious. I can't remember which episode though. I'll try to find it.

I'm thinking that Worf would ride for the Enterprise but O'Brien is definitely going for Deep Space 9. He went from teleporter operator to Chief Engineer. I can't see him trying to play second fiddle to Toby anymore.

Although Worf joined DS9 his heart is with the Enterprise. Look at how he was steady on the Enterprise eventhough he already transferred to DS9.

O'Brien: Chief Engineer>>>>>>>Transporter Chief It's as simple as that. He's gonna roll with Sisko.

Both, but I think that the "no starship" played the biggest role. Cats have this idea that you absolutely must explore different worlds every episode. The ironic thing is that DS9 developed more alien cultures than any other series.

while TNG had a ship that traveled the universe and encountered alien cultures and strange new worlds, DS9 had a space station in which these alien cultures and strange new worlds came to them. They just flipped it. But I really liked how DS9 (unlike the Voyager which used creative crutches) developed already established alien races a lot more (The Cardassians and Ferengi) and then was able to create their own villians (Dominion and Jem H'adar). And they were very successful at it.

Voyager, on the other hand, tried that Kazon shullbit and failed. Really these dudes have ships capable of traveling through the galaxy but they can't find water? And what's up with Voyager encountering the Kazon every 4 episodes. If Voyager plotted a straight course back to the Alpha Quadrant, why do they keep running into the Kazon? But I digress..."Voyager" was so inept at creating compelling villians they stole the Borg from "TNG" and straight up mishandled them. Plus, how TF did they explain the Borg Queen dying in "First Contact" but being all the way in the Gamma Quadrant? Whatever, I could on and on.

Point being, DS9 was criminally slept on. Everything after that was subpar.

It just didn't have the same cultural impact as TNG. How could it? TNG changed the face of television. Syndicated new shows weren't really poppin until TNG. It was the first non-broadcast network drama (and YES, it was a legitimate drama) to resonate with anyone, the storytelling was brand-new, etc.

I mean, if you measure DS9 as a failure, you gotta say everything Trek-related post DS9 as a failure.

But, if you wanna talk about why it didn't get the same props early on, it was because it was a drastic change in style. It was stationary, didn't usually bring any new species around, etc. It was acutally the most well-plotted and enthralling of all the series, though, and folks eventually came to understand that.

fka nope

Everything post DS9 is usually considered a failure, too. Although I do agree that failure is probably too strong of a word, everyone involved with the series usually calls it Star Trek's "bastard step child".

TNG was the highest rated first run syndicated show in history I believe. At its peak, if it were on network television, it would have been a top 10 show. TNG was the GOAT. Anything after that would have been considered a failure.

The drastic change in style was the biggest thing holding it back. It had a darker tone. The characters were not automatically likeable. But I feel that TNG is "1" and DS9 "1A" in my book. DS9 was just that good. TNG gets the nod because it started to fully develop the ST universe. It laid the groundwork for DS9. But DS9 definitely had great stories. I loved the serial nature of it. Rather than the stand alone eps of TNG.

Kirk & Crew--How many times has this guy won just because he was stubborn.

I think he was even legally dead a few times and still won the day.

Finally, let's not forget the two fisted knuckle punch. It beats EVERYTHING.

*end rant*

Data is like the smartest being in the universe (outside of the all knowing "Q".) I figure he can come up with something to take out the DS9 crew including the changeling.

because I assume you're using in the context of coming up with strategies that work outside the box, which Data has shown time and again he's perfectly capable of, and even pulled Picard's card on that one time with the Romulan's trying to sneak weapons to the Klingons and 'em.

Both have great lineups, but imo Data and Worf put them over the top by a hair.

Or maybe Quark would get the whole TNG crew drunk, and leave basically only Data against all of DS-9?

Close call, but I gotta go with TNG.

What about the ladies, I know Troi cant fight for shit but she definitely has the edge as far as tactics go. Uhura, I would personally jump in the ring, carry her off and have her sit on my lap in my luxury space box seat.

I think Janeway can throw some hands but Dax and Kira have shown they can box with the best of them. Hell Dax was fighting with Worf (her husband) for fun!

they're not bogged down by starfleet...bashir and sisko might have some qualms but odo, kira, mr. styles, and ESPECIALLY DAX (i'm assuming not pixie-dax) wouldn't spend 20 minutes on diplomacy or team collaboration for this.

I keep seeing Dax, Odo, and Data thrown around, but Benjamin 9 Stacks didn't fuck around. This is the dude was the most military out of all the Captains. He was complicit in killing political leaders in order to get the Romulans to join the war, was willing to bomb the hell out of a planet in order to get the Marquis leader to give up. Most importantly, this is the dude who wouldn't take Q's shit and snuffed him.

Furthermore, if you think he can throw down with the best, then peep the clip.

Sisko could throw the hands, kept his phaser cocked and wasnt against murking folks but as far as strategist Kirk and Picard have the edge over him.

and Bashir who is not being mentioned with the Odo/Dax/Garak praise was an "enhanced" human and was stronger, faster, and more intelligent then all the other "regular" humans. But essentially he was a fag.

Sisko was a strategic beast. Picard not to say that he didn't have plans, he was just iller when it came down to the diplomacy issues. If Jean-Luc was running DS9 there wouldn't even have been a show since he would've had Bajor signing with the Federation before the third commercial break.

Kirk's strategies were ass, it's just that he was such a daredevil that he could pull off anything. That's why he trumps them all.

>and Bashir who is not being mentioned with the Odo/Dax/Garak

First, I wasn't shitting on Sisko, I was just saying that accusing Picard of being a strategic slouch is uninformed.

But if you really wanna take it there, the TNG crew stopped the Borg from eliminating humans as a factor in the galaxy. I'm not shitting on Sisko, I'm just giving Picard his due props.

because you have to remember that Wesley got training as a Traveler. He was asked to detach himself from his humanity in order to master space and time, but let's not get it twisted...Wesley had a penchant for breaking the rules when his loved ones' lives depended on it, a behavior he learned from Picard.

So, theoretically, depending on when this DS9/TNG showdown pops off, Wes/Data/Worf is already an unstoppable force before you even bring in Riker/Picard. I mean, if you wanna go just 5 on five, that's a ridiculous team right there, whether you like Wes or not. Again, it depends on what we're allowing continuity-wise, but we know that Wesley eventually rejoined Starfleet.

crying and acting like a little bitch.

Wesley might be able to navigate his way through a deadly star cluster, but son that don't mean shit when the rumble starts. I don't give a shit about his loved ones or his Starfleet or whatever, Jake Sisko is gonna baseball bat that little mathlete something serious and then play a game of catch with his popped out eyeball.

Riker's a pretty serious X-Factor, though, because you know even dykey ass Janeway is gonna be hot under the collar when comes around smooth talking. Even pre-beard I bet he could bang out 7 of 9 AND Janeway in the same night. 5-on-5 rumble and that's TWO down right there thanks to Riker.

And of course you got Picard the Unbreakable, Worf, and a goddamn ANDROID who might not know love, but he knows how to throw down, son.

but FOH with this Wesley Crusher BS. That kid is too busy in the holodeck blogging about how girls won't talk to him to be anything but an L for the Next Gen crew.

First, on your side of the argument, you left out that he's also good for secretly having sex with Geordi. Yup. I'm sure of that one. BUT, you also are ignoring the fact that this dude has the ability to fuck with space and time. And this dude straight took over the Enterprise one time.

AND he got his Riker on on multiple occasions, including that shape-shifting broad and freakin' Ashley Judd. Come on, now.

when where how?

all I know is Wesley Crusher was on the show one season and not on it the next, was that the reason why?

As far as the children Battle Royale between Nog, Jake, Worf's son, Wesley and O'brien's daughter (who turned out to be raised by wolves or some shit like that in an episode of DS9) I'm giving it to Nog.

He was accepted on to a klingon ship and most likely trained by them. He would be the only one in that crew who could body someone.

He then went to Starfleet Academy and popped up from time to time after that, to get his mother lost in a warp bubble, bone Ashley Judd, Kill a fellow cadet, and traverse space and time with the Alien Judge Reinhold.

58. "Oh yeah. Remember the Traveler?"
In response to Reply # 55

He was the dude that could control time-space with his mind that convinced Picard to help mold Wesley in the first damn place, because he knew Wesley's potential. Then, really late in the series, Wesley was visiting on the Enterprise. The TNG crew were assigned to relocate some human Native Americans to another planet because they lost the planet due to no fault of their own in a Cardassian treaty. Of course the Indians were pissed, and made their case their historical case that the shit was ridiculous and monstrous. Wesley agreed and argued with Picard.

Picard told Wesley that a Starfleet officer wasn't in a position to make these calls, so Wesley basically told Picard to eat a dick, and turned in his Starfleet insignia. He went and met up with the resistance, and did a spirit journey or whatever the shit is called with the chief, at which point Wesley's dad told him he did the right thing. Then the fighting pops the fuck off, Wes is in the middle of it, and guess who the chief morphs into, after stopping time?

Yup. The Traveler from Season 1. He asked Wes to come with him and leave the humans behind so that he could also be a traveler. Wes was down. They let the fight resume and dipped out. This was an incident that had a real effect on Chokotay from Voyager, I believe.

So yeah, that motherfucker Wes can control space and time, homey. Watch yo step.

But Wesley took time off from all that space/time travelling to attend Riker and Troi's wedding.

He might not have been featured that much outside of one season.....but dude had #1 pick upside, and Picard saw that.....the Traveler did as well.

63. "Pre and Post Borg, TNG crew should have that on lock"
In response to Reply # 0

Picard still had a wild streak in him from youth, regardless of his diplomatic side that was always shown. Post Borg? You could tell he didn't give a fuck and would beat your ass. Riker? Could beat the crap out of dudes and try to sleep with any woman on any team, especially after the beard. Worf? Klingon. 'Nuff said. He'd try to fight with all his limbs cut off. Data could probably sling people thru the starship hull once he gets his hands on them. Not sure how A Man Called Hawk and his crew could really compete.

The one thing that could trip up TNG crew is if Worf and Riker start bickering over who fucked Troi better and the 3 of them get sidetracked.

In response to Reply # 63

when they're trying to outdo each other. Every time those two go somewhere without Picard around, Riker WILDS THEE FUCK OUT, throwing people through tables and shit. He's always showing out for Worf just to show he ain't a punk. Worf usually responds in kind.

Really, if you put those two in a scrap, you'd do better to not have Picard close, because then Riker really turns off the safeties.

In response to Reply # 64

3-some in history right there. Troi's mom would probably be directing it, come to think about it...

In the end, I think Picard would take out Sisko. All he's have to do is see him as a Borg and Jean-Luc will wil' the fuck out, much like his tommy gun action in First Contact.

we should include Lt. Barclay on the TNG crew. He's a good role player off the bench. He might not be a superstar, but he'll help get a few rebounds and play decent defense.
