"Tell me your worst film of last year"

I don't think we have had a post on the worst of cinema in 2008 so lets celebrate some of the trash that got released over the past 12 months. Should be fun and get a lot of different opinions. I also don't think mainstream critics shit enough on bad films which have either a big budget or an established star in it.

My worst film of last year: indiana jones. I wish I could get back the 2 hours plus of my life that i wasted watching this film. It was terrible, Harrison Ford was about the best thing in it but he really didn't need to do it and it certainly tarnished the other movies. The screenplay was terrible and the acting by everyone else should be considered career low points. The fact that George Lucas wanted to call it Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men from Mars makes my point as the worst film of last year. I think its disgusting how critics didn't bury this before it was released but then i guess Ford, Spielberg, Lucas, Shia and Blanchett are pretty tough people to make enemies of.

My second worst film of the year was Sex and the CIty. Now I don't mind the t.v. series but the film was poor in comparison and when the best thing about it was J Hudson who wasn't even in the tv show you know it is going to be bad. Screenplay again was terrible and for a tv show with such sharp one liners these were sorely missing in the film. Plus it was 2 hours 20 mins and they still can't make a good film. Fail.

Honourable mention: What Just Happened.

I sat through this and it was terrible. just terrible. I make it a policy of never walking out of films but i so wanted to of this one. Everything about it was misjudged. De Niro is given almost nothing to work with and anyone hoping for something of the same standard as Wag the Dog (same lead actor and same director) is going to be pissed.

Tell me your worst films of 2008.

I know people were coppin the "it's a summer popcorn flick" plea, but that doesn't give it a pass for the bullshit that was included in that movie. Wack ass effects, horrible writing, magic looms, and an army of bomb carrying rats who love peanut butter.

Sam was havin a lot of fun in this one. The eggs lines killed me time & time again. The violence was over the top & funny just like Sin City. Especially with the Louis Lombardi characters. Even Scarlet Johansen found a niche here. Dan Lauria was killin it & Macht held it down as well. I probably wont buy the DVD but I'd watch it again on cable. It was much better than the last Spidey, Hulk & both of Fantastic Fours.

I went in thinking it would be terrible and it was actually worse than I thought. Samuel L Jackson was the only entertaining part. I mean the dialogue was soooooooooooo painfully bad, the whole Frank Miller effect was cheesy (There were a few cool shots but that tie shit, LAME!), and I love Scarlett Johanson but man was she annoying in that film. But I'll save the most hate for the Spirit himself, his acting was terrible, maybe it was a Star wars thing were the director slash writer was just really weak (most likely) but I never once cared for him. i mean in any of the fight scenes I felt no need to root for him b/c he's so dead (no pun intended). Those clones were annoying as hell and seriously was the score just a compilation of rejects from every other Batman movie? wtf?

Didn't see most of the Razzie nominees but those two movies were horrible.

I actually didn't mind What Just Happened? Wasn't great but I knew a lot of the stories were based on real life so it was kind of interesting. Also, I can't get bored whenever Moon Bloodgood (or whatever he name is) in on screen.

Street Kings was terrible. Not only did it bite a bad movie to begin with (Training Day), but it sucked on its own merits: bad acting, bad plot development, overt racism trying to be passed off as gritty realism, and one of the stupidist most unbelievable endings ever.

indiana jones was bad as well

I mean Grand Torino is pretty accurate to how a lot of bitter old guys are, which isn't that different to how their bitter middle age children are. I found GT one of the few films that dealt and resolved something to do with race and wasn't really cheesy, wish i could say more with Crash, Higher Learning, or Driving Miss Daisy. This s mostly b/c he used humour throughout and didn't depend on touching moments to show every step of the progression.

I didn't think Street Kings was in the same class as Love Guru and Indiana Jones, I didn't see The Happening so I can't comment on that. Street Kings just kind of felt formulaic and put too much weight on Keanu's acting ability. I thought there were a couple of decent things going on in there including Terry Crews.

It was like finding out Santa wasn't real.

I was so hyped on the DeNiro/Pacino element, and seeing a 1 star review of it broke my damn heart.

In response to Reply # 24

I'm going Pacino because at least The Happening has camp value and will be a cult classic. There's really nothing redeeming about either 88 Minutes or Righteous Kill.

And I'm still pissed that they had Carla keep her bra on. Forget Al and Robert, those were the two best things this movie had going for it.

That movie was amazing, i mean Gus had 2 amazing films last year and proved himself to be one of the strongest directors in the industry. I fact that he could work with big names like Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and make a great film after just making a film using mainly ppl he found on myspace. Not to mention the fact almost everything in the film is done so subtly that you need to rewatch to get everything. I mean everyone is entitled to their opinions but i don't get the hate on this film at all, Psycho remake, sure, Finding Forrester, sure hell even Gerry but not this movie.

There's not much I can say to defend that. But VCB was still far worse to me.

wow, stop loss, really!? it turned its back on its own righteous message at the end, but by no means a bad movie.

because it should have turned its BACK PERIOD on that message from the get go....

and the performances weren't that good at all....Ryan Phillippe wasn't decent, Channing Tatum was too inconsistent in terms of emotional arcs and range throughout the pic...

and the GOOD performances (Abbie Cornish, Joseph Gordon-Leavitt, Mamie Gummer, Victor Rasuk, etc.) were wasted.

end of story....

for this to come from Kimberly Pierce (Boys Don't Cry), I expected something A LOT stronger...

this would have been good...as a documentary. Not as a narrative film.

That movie effectively showed how the Army can break the will of a soldier.
You need to watch it again.
The performances were good.

Pass the Popcorn movie snobs. SMH

The story about people dealing with life after war was intriguing but then it went on the road trip movie and fell off.

It wasn't the worst movie of the year but it might have been the most disappointing because they turned an interesting, important premise and made a mediocre movie out of it.
