I recently watched the animated shorts playing at Sundance, and they were impressive in their own ways, but damn were they depressing, to the point that some of the filmmakers just felt like jerks to me. It didn't feel honest, really. Like they wanted to make people feel something, and decided it was just easier to make people feel crummy.
I think we can agree that it's a tougher task to make a quality movie that makes you feel good than a quality movie that makes you depressed as shit. What are some of the best life-affirming films?
This is kind of a Slumdog Millionaire spin-off.

that don't have at least an element of sadness or bittersweeetness I mean, thinking about it, I guess that's actually intrinsically linked to life-affirming in many ways
Looking through my DVDs, the only one I remember feeling good through is The Station Agent, and I don't even remember how it ends lol
