"Life-affirming movies (that are actually good)"

I recently watched the animated shorts playing at Sundance, and they were impressive in their own ways, but damn were they depressing, to the point that some of the filmmakers just felt like jerks to me. It didn't feel honest, really. Like they wanted to make people feel something, and decided it was just easier to make people feel crummy.

I think we can agree that it's a tougher task to make a quality movie that makes you feel good than a quality movie that makes you depressed as shit. What are some of the best life-affirming films?

This is kind of a Slumdog Millionaire spin-off.

It's a decent flick. Except for having the worst prosthetic arm in film history.

I actually put it as my number one movie from 07, despite great films like No Country and There Will Be Blood, because it was so joyful.

Groundhog Day

An Angel at My Table (which might make you think WTF am I talking about, but wait it out, I promise)

Late Spring

Ikiru

Three Colors: Red (but you have to watch the previous 2 flicks first; a great trilogy kind of weak in the middle, but still great)

Our Song (an indie film that can stand up to most mid-major and major films; great stuff)

that don't have at least an element of sadness or bittersweeetness
I mean, thinking about it, I guess that's actually intrinsically linked to life-affirming in many ways

Looking through my DVDs, the only one I remember feeling good through is The Station Agent, and I don't even remember how it ends lol

They just remind you of something that you might not have thought about lately, and challenge you to come up with a solution.
