I'm listening to 'Fresh Air' right now, and he's flat out annoying!
I can't stand his voice, I can't stand him wheezing into the mic when Terri asks questions, and he's really damn dull.
And now that I think of it, all of his characters come off as smug assholes.

I can't think of the last time I saw him in a film where he wasn't outstanding. He even managed to make me laugh a couple times when he was in Along Came Polly, an aggressively unfunny movie.
Seriously, when was the last time he phoned in a performance? Patch Adams?

He's good at smug assholes (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, Talented Mr. Ripley) but he pulls off a range of roles almost effortlessly (Punch Drunk Love, Next Stop Wonderland, Charlie Wilson's War, 25th Hour) ______________________________________________________________________________

when it was actually remarkable because of him. the movie is oozing with tension but is draggingly slow. i get that its slow. its hard to invest yourself in the movie if you know nothing/read nothing of capote. he was an absolute powerhouse in that role.
oddly enough, i liked the other capote movie that came out more than PSH's. PSH just stole the show.

The whole "how could I not know?" bit about his character's actions in Doubt was really a-holeish, but at the same time, alot of studious method actors come off as pricks when they talk about acting because of how serious they have to take themselves. The only studious actor that I've heard talk about the process that manages not to come as a prick is DDL, and that's just likely because he has little doubt in himself and he's irish.
And I don't think PSL was a prick in Charlie Wilson's War or Magnolia.
