Don't get me wrong, it was a kick seeing ol' Clint up there, spittin' out cuss words and racist invective like he was Archie Bunker's pops...
In fact, Clint the Actor was pretty goddamn fun to watch.
But the problem is that Clint the Director got in the way of the fun, by once again insisting that he shoot the first draft of the script.
It needed at least one more rewrite. This film, as written, is terrible, full of bad dialogue, stereotypical characters, and scenes that appeared to be lifted straight out of films like Boyz in the Hood, South Central, and 187. No, seriously, there were shots and dialogue that appeared to be jacked DIRECTLY from those films, as if the cat who wrote it watched a gang of these movies and decided to make the white guy in Minneapolis version (the original draft was set in Minneapolis, which is where the writer is from; once Clint decided to make the movie the setting was changed to Detroit).
Oh, and the Asian girl is cute as shit.
***(CHRIS HANSEN EDIT: she's 16 years old, have a seat, Zoo)***
The tone of the film, for at least 2/3 of it, is pretty light in comparison to Clint's previous heavy works... but then the contrived and "serious" 3rd act comes, and all bets are off.
So I'd say if you like Clint and just HAVE to see it, then go ahead and be prepared to see Clint the Actor bring the hate, but also be prepared to be let down by Clint the Director. ________________________________________________________________________ <------ The GOAT.
