rachel getting married is a better film, because it had a better better story with better characters.
i liked juno, by the way. but, the academy gotta stay consistent and award the best screenplay. there isn't a better one this year. there's enough material there for noms for no less than 4 actors in that movie. that's amazing.

Plus she's the daughter of a highly-respected filmmaker, who has written a film with some emotional weight behind it (not to mention some thinly-veiled homages to her loving pops), so she's bound to get at least some nomination love...

Not a film for everyone but it definitely should get a nomination for best screenplay (as of now). The biggest issues against it are that the the film isn't the phenomenon that Juno was and the screenwriting is so natural and honest and the acting so good that people could overlook it. Unlike with Juno look at me! quirkiness, this screenplay's strength is that you almost don't notice it.
I really liked the film. Wouldn't recommend it to everyone as it's definitely an art film but it's one of the year's best so far.

This movie was great and everything about it flowed so naturally, including the acting.
For best screenplay for teh GG, all are adapted from novels except Slumdog. I'm not saying there were all ass scripts but if you compare an original work to an adapted one and they are both even? you have to give it to the original writing.

Script + Hathaway + DeWitt (she fine too) + visual style = dope. But the script was the true moneymaker here.
This is the first year I can recall where I fully and wholeheartedly enjoyed three of the five best actress nominee performances. Three really great female roles for Hathaway, Leo, and Streep. I don't know who my best actress is yet.

Felt very real and true to life. It was occasionally painful to watch, but only during situations that would actually be painful to watch. I did feel kind of bad for the step-brother and the groom, who have now inherited this fucked-up family dynamic.
In some cases I guess I would have enjoyed a lil' more background, but I understand why Lumet left it out.
