Jan singing at her baby shower as if it was a concert...and the look on everyone's faces. Also when she described her water birth and even Creed got grossed out.

Mike talking to Daryl about baby daddy advice.

Holly telling Jan that her baby was on a sales call and on her coffee break.

It wasn't one of the best episodes, but I still have faith in the show.

My biggest beef with this episode was Pam leaving the laundromat at the end...she is in NYC right? that was the most suburban looking streets I have ever seen. I know the show is filmed in Cali, but isn't there some backlot they could have used that at least resembled a city street?

But the Jim and Pam stuff is getting so sappy, its beyond annoying.

And the whole Dwight testing the stroller bit just seemed a little too obvious. We've seen this kind of thing before with him.

Only thing about last night is that they included a little more tenderness than they do even in episodes where they are a little tender.

Between everyone's baby loving Michael, the hug and him asking out the HR lady and Jim and Pam having the same convo over voicemail....way too tender/touching etc.

Dwight, Assturd and warehouse dude gave me enough chuckles.....

have they already written episodes for the entire season?
maybe they only signed her on for a number of episodes to see if viewers liked her first...

I think she is def a great addition to the cast.

She was one of the more significant recurring characters in The Wire who wasn't part of the main cast. She is/was amazing as Beadie Russell.

I didn't laugh that much but to say they may jump the shark is too much. I don't get bothered by the jim pam shit that much - it's kind of just there. Dwight fuckin up the baby stroller was stupid but jan singing, the baby daddy stuff, and mike eating the baby watermelon made me laugh.

Yeah, I know, Michael and Dwight are caricatures, but I'm sorry, that shit was hilarious... because you not only are laughing at the ridiculousness of Dwight, but you also learn new, and definitely odd, character information about him... I thought that was cool...

And once again, the only nauseating storyline for me was... you guessed it, "America's Favorite Couple" (™ NBC), Jim and Pam (sorry, Longo)... I mean, like, take the laundromat scene, for example. Is there a legitimate reason why Pam couldn't take her ass outside if the cell phone reception was so bad? The only reason she was kept inside was to emphasize "the space between" her and Jim. That was some contrived bullshit, imo, and bored me greatly...

But everything else was fine. Stanley checking himself out as he compared his health to that of a pregnant woman was a nice bit... Michael talking about "golden showers" was, yes, funny (though it might have been funnier had he caught himself saying it)... Michael going through with the baby shower even though the baby was there was funny... I also laffed at "Lion King!"... and Dwight's road testing of the stroller was very funny as well*... and Michael asking Darryl for advice was funny...

Now, I'm not so sure that I liked having Michael tell Holly that he was going to be mean to her in Jan's presence... I thought that was a bit mean-spirited and unnecessary, even if they bought it back with the heartfelt Michael-Holly hug at the end of the episode...

I also didn't need to hear Jan singing... now, I know that Melora Hardin has been putting out CDs of her singing (I remember seeing her do an acoustic set on KTLA last year), but we didn't need to necessarily see and hear her do it on the show... it's almost like Melora's people had a clause put in her contract that she'd return only if she got to showcase some of her singing talent... at least there was no NBC promo at the end of the night directing viewers to her website or something...

But despite these issues, I thought it was a pretty good episode overall... not as good as last week's, but still good enough

*I also will cop to the notion that Dwight's stroller testing might have been too over-the-top, and I didn't like the payoff to that story...

That was typical Michael/Dwight wackiness, which I love the most about the show. It's always sweetened by Jim's dry commentaries on their activities.

And I did like Michael's interaction with Darryl.

But Jan's singing, Michael's interaction w/Holly, and especially the Jim/Pam thing (you're right, very contrived)...left me cold.

... that absolutely rang true for me. You try to work around your different schedules, and you try to step out of your way to make sure you get valuable time on the phone, but at the end of the day, "I'll tell you later" becomes the catchphrase.

The most realistic interaction between the two of them was when Pm was telling the story about her friends that Jim doesn't know, and Jim struggles to be interested and to keep up. My Lord, that was me hearing my ex talk about all her OSU law school drama. I had a flashback so vivid.

So yeah, I realize it got kinda shticky, mostly with the last part, the "they're gonna be fine" conversation. But all the rest of the stuff? Been there, done that.

That was the ONLY time I was interested in what was going on with them... probably because I've done that very thing myself (but I wasn't in a l.d. relationship, I was just on the phone with this girl while playing Madden at the same time, lol)...

And based on her reactions, I'm guessing she forgot that he was just fronting on her in front of Jan

That's why I said it was... mean-spirited!

He could have just said, listen, Jan's going to need a little more attention, she's the mother of my child, so let's be cool while she's here

That's why I said it was... unnecessary!

And yes or no, Jim *did* get caught saying the wrong shit, even as the phone kept cutting in and out (which I mentioned was a possibility, right?)...

He could have said it in a nicer way, even if he is Michael

I would have been fine with him acting like they were in a full blown relationship, and him over-exaggerating on some, "ay, girl, I'm just saying we gotta to slow this down... for the sake of my child" steez

It's just as funny and non-sensical -- just as Michael -- without the mean edge, which wasn't needed, imo

the final scene where Pam walks out of the laundromat which looks like it was a strip mall in Ohio when she is supposed to be in NYC.

They've filmed street scenes in NYC in the past, they couldn't fly Ms Beasley out to NYC to film her scenes real quick? I know there has to be some backlot that slightly resembles NYC? What about that bobo set that they used on Seinfeld that was supposed to be NYC. That would have been way better.

I don't know...for me it ruins the effect of me thinking that Pam is actually in NYC. I know for the sake of the story, she is, but still...it just didn't look right.

I laughed. I think I've laughed several times at every Office episode.

but overall, I agree -- it was mediocre.

I'm having a real problem with the characters lately: the Jim and Pam storyline, which carried S1-S3, sucks now ("we're just a little off today" <-- not conflict, still annoying) and Jan being crazy isn't that interesting.

support characters are still good (Creed, Stanley, Phyllis) but they need to dig up more interesting storylines.

We know that Jan is crazy, but she was always portrayed as a character who was great at hiding it.

The obvious attempts to make her blatantly crazy was just too "forced" for lack of a better term. At least to me...
