makes him enough to afford to graft a third leg onto himself, so that he might be able to KICK HIMSELF IN THE BALLS.

If not, I'm sure his agent will do the honors.

I just got finished watchin' this nigga on the Living Single marathon, and now he ain't gettin a big enough check for Iron Man.

it is quite possible that they were trying to fuck this dude over with the money, and he refused. I'm fairly certain RDJ and Favreau are eating up a lot of the budget, and there ain't much left over.

Iron Man's probably going to become a big enough franchise that Howard would have gotten a War Machine spin off that he could have done serious numbers for.

So the only person that fucked with Terrence's money is Terrence.

The thing is, if your going to take a L for the sake of your career, this would probably be it.

Your in a megablockbuster sequel that had some critical acclaim the first time around, and you are going to get a much bigger part. It could have been a major stepping stone into him carrying a major movie on his own, and I doubt whatever they offered him couldn't have been that horrible considering they snapped up Cheadle for probably around the same fee.

Especially with the way they bleed franchises, it wouldn't be surprising that in the downtime for Iron Man 3/Avengers depending on the reception they would make a War Machine movie with a diff director+Howard to keep the money rolling in the meantime.

Dumb move.

it would just be retarded. The fuck they need TWO armored heroes with their own movies being produced for?

War Machine might happen after RDJ is done with Iron Man, but not before. That would be a bad idea, and these dudes are working good ideas thus far. AND they're on a really tight schedule.

I doubt they would write him in tackling badguys with Tony mano a mano.

Probably some scene where Tony put the armor on drunk and is getting his ass kicked, Cheadle knows there's an extra suit, pilots it badly and barely saves Tony, and then Tony takes over for the rest of the fight.

Just a nod, but a big enough not to branch off in the future easily

The only aspect that takes a hit is continuity. But I wasn't really a Terrence Howard fan as Jim Rhodes. I think Cheadle is going to make you forget Howard was even in Iron Man 1.

War Machine (Jim Rhodes) was the initial reason I got into Iron Man back in the day. It's going to be interesting to see what they do with the part in the next movie.

...

my thoughts,

peace.

It's hard enough to keep one franchise on track.

Why didn't Marvel lock these guys down a little tighter in the first place? Was is too much of a risk for them on their first moviemaking venture? I thought that sort of thing was typical practice with these types of flicks.

There is no reason why he should take a pay cut to be in the next movie. The ish mad a gazillion dollars. If he accepted lower money his asking price would go down for his other work. I can give TH the benefit of the doubt that he and his peeps thought it out before being in this position.

This is real shitty. Cheadle is a hell of an actor, but I really don't see him as War Machine/Rhodey. I was looking forward to seeing Howard play a bigger role in the sequel. Not only is the continuity affected, but Cheadle just doesn't seem right for this role. This is really sad. Terrence Howard was perfect for this. This shit is stupid. It don't even make sense. This could have been the biggest role of Terrence's career. Sounds like he was on that Vin Diesel Fast & Furious 2 shit. He's fucking up. He's fucking up Iron Man 2, too.

He's probably looking at this going, "Good! Now I can use my status to go make a sequel for Hotel For Dogs and record some more albums." This is a guy who dropped out of making movies for several months, at the peak of his film career, to go star on Broadway in a Tennessee Williams play.

This dude ain't about the money. He's probably got plenty of it. He tried to get paid for the big-budget spectacle, they didn't wanna pay him. I bet he's shrugging his shoulders, looking for more theater and pet projects to do.

You know who was most shocked about Don Cheadle being cast as Jim Rhodes? The previous one, Terrence Howard. "It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. just ... up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on, sometimes. Promises aren't kept, and good faith negotiations aren't always held up." You can hear the whole interview on NPR.

One actor who will be back is Sam Jackson, or so he told IESB. Apparently, at the Scream Awards director Jon Favreau told Jackson that Nick Fury would have a much more prominent role in the second one.

Terrence Howard Doesn't Know Why Iron Man Dumped Him
by Elisabeth Rappe Oct 20th 2008 // 9:30AM

Filed under: Action, Casting, RumorMonger, Celebrities and Controversy, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels

If there was one story last week that prompted geekdom to wail aloud and gnash their teeth, it was the news that Terrence Howard wouldn't be returning as Rhodes in Iron Man 2. The role (and future War Machine suit) will go to Don Cheadle. It isn't that Cheadle won't do a fine job, but Howard was the perfect Rhodey. And that great little "Next time!" scene? It loses a bit of fun when a different person pops up next time.

We all blamed Howard for the split, particularly because the trades implied he wanted too much money to return. But we're in for another round of "Who do you believe?" because Howard told NPR that he knows nothing about any contract negotiations. In fact, he learned the ugly truth of his departure at the same time and place as the rest of us -- the trades. "It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. just ... up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on, sometimes. Promises aren't kept, and good faith negotiations aren't always held up."

Now, this could be all damage control on Howard's part (and you can listen to the entire interview to judge for yourself), but it's a startling state of affairs nonetheless. And who likes the implication that no one bothered to tell Howard "You're fired!" That's just not cool. I don't like all this drama surrounding Iron Man 2 -- first, Favreau was on the outs, now it's Howard. If I wake up tomorrow and find out Robert Downey Jr. has been replaced with Clive Owen (which, like Cheadle, would be a choice of equal caliber but just not the same), I'll know there's no hope for Hollywood.

Some people said that people didn't get along with Howard on the set but there's more...

"Those with intimate knowledge of the situation suggest a far more dramatic backstory: Howard was the first actor signed to the film and, on top of that, was the highest-paid. That's right: more than Gwyneth Paltrow. More than Jeff Bridges. More than Robert Downey Jr. And once the project fully came together, it was too late to renegotiate his deal. It didn't help that, according to one source, Favreau and his producers were ultimately unhappy with Howard's performance, and spent a lot of time cutting and reshooting his scenes.

...As such, when Favreau and screenwriter Justin Theroux went to map out the sequel they found themselves minimizing Howard's story line. Once Marvel learned that Favreau was thinking of curtailing the role, the studio went to the actor's agents with a new and drastically reduced offer — a number that's similar to what supporting cast members were paid for the first movie. The agents, according to sources, were so taken aback by this new figure — estimated at somewhere between a 50 and 80 percent pay cut — that they questioned it."

'Iron Man 2': How Terrence Howard Lost His Metal

Marvel's decision to recast the role of Col. Jim Rhodes said to be a combination of salary issues and concern about the performance
Buzz up!More

HOWARD'S END Robert Downey Jr. and the actor in Iron Man
Zade Rosenthal

By Nicole Sperling

When a summer blockbuster grosses more than $300 million, putting together a sequel is typically as simple as throwing buckets of money at your stars and signing a few pieces of paper. That hasn't been the case with Iron Man 2. It took months for Marvel Studios to lock in director Jon Favreau for the sequel. And reports that Don Cheadle will replace Terrence Howard as Col. Jim Rhodes — a supporting character who seemed poised for a big role in the follow-up after he muttered ''Next time, baby'' to Iron Man's steel suit — hint that IM2 isn't quite as infallible as the superhero at its center.

Hollywood insiders believe the exit stems from Terrence Howard's difficult behavior on the set of Iron Man. But those with intimate knowledge of the situation suggest a far more dramatic backstory: Howard was the first actor signed to the film and, on top of that, was the highest-paid. (Favreau could not be reached for comment, while Howard's publicist says: ''Terrence had a tremendous experience working on Iron Man.'')

As such, when Favreau and screenwriter Justin Theroux went to map out the sequel they found themselves minimizing Howard's story line. Once Marvel learned that Favreau was thinking of curtailing the role, the studio went to the actor's agents with a new and drastically reduced offer — a number that's similar to what supporting cast members were paid for the first movie. The agents, according to sources, were so taken aback by this new figure — estimated at somewhere between a 50 and 80 percent pay cut — that they questioned it. Why did they blanch? Multiple sources say that Marvel execs never told Howard's reps that they had issues with the star's on-set conduct. (Marvel would not comment for this story.)

It's unclear whether Howard's team walked away first, or if Marvel ended the discussion at that point. Either way, the studio moved quickly to secure Cheadle and the story leaked out the next morning, Oct. 14. And alas for Howard, there will be no next time.

Yeah, and I'm gonna jump off the pussy train cause 17 pussies are just not going to cut it for me. I need 19 or I'm off to masturbate.

FOHWTBS. Terrence Howard, I had such high hopes for you. Don Cheadle, may the force be with you.

Was that vulgar?
