"Poll question: Best Dramatic film about Drug Addiction"

There's tons of films with drug use but mainly looking for films where a lead character gets addicted and has to struggle. I know there are many others besides these 4, but I am having a difficult time thinking right now, damn drugs...

Poll result (36 votes)
Trainspotting (9 votes)Vote
Requiem for a Dream (23 votes)Vote
Basketball Diaries (2 votes)Vote
Less than Zero (0 votes)Vote
Other (2 votes)Vote

Pacino's first starring role.

Trainspotting's the best though.

I was disappointed when I eventually saw it a few years back. It wasn't really disturbing to me, I just felt it was sledgehammering me over the head with this anti-drug message -- like an extreme after-school special or something.

I'd probably vote for "Trainspotting" since it isn't all doom and gloom -- there is an exciting rush to addiction that explains one reason why a lot of people will themselves into junkiedom, and few other drug films capture that aspect while also documenting the self-destruction.

Stayed pretty faithful to the book even if they did move the time period, just gave a very dark snapshot of people ruined by addiction. I dind't get it as a "MESSAGE © Keenan Ivory Wayans" film.

Although, it was more about dealing more so than addiction.

But it deserves a shoutout. Kid was excellent in that.

I don't know if that changes how you feel about it (especially since all these films are fictional) but I just thought I'd add that in.
