Here's the thing; I don't know the cat. So I can't speak on whether or not he's 'acting.' I can say he seems to play the same character in all 3 of his movies, but hell we can say that for a LOT of character actors.

but then again, it's not like he's been in a ton of films. It would be nice to see him expand his range a little bit (I mean, when you make Jay Baruchel look like a bully, you probably should start working on broadening your scope).
He's about two or three films from playing himself out but he's still funny to me. I'll be checking out Nick and Nora.

Pacino now, yeah but back in the day he played very different characters. DeNiro wasn't the same person in Raging Bull and Taxi Driver or Cape Fear. Denzel's been different when the roles call for it. Easy Rawlings is no Alonzo or Malcolm X.
Now they do (like most actors) get typecast a bit but some people (like Michael Cera right now) play the exact same person.

just get on screen and be themselves, not differentiating between "characters". Just, "In this movie my name is John Jacobs, and in that movie my name is Jake Johnson." Just the name changes. They g on screen and do the same shit, the same shtick.

I saw it when it was first released, at which time I was working on the trading floor of Drexel Burnham Lambert, for Michael Milken, on whom the Gordon Gecko character was based (like a combo Mike + Ivan Boesky). I have to say that I don't think that any greater liberties were taken in Wall Street than are taken in most narrative features.

but even then, he's done diverse acting in movies like "Unbreakable", "The Red Violin", and "Changing Lanes". And he acts his ass of in Jackie Brown, even if its a straightforward roll.

everything else AFTER north country was horrid...Battle in Seattle is being maligned by critics for its script and direction (done by her boyfriend) and everyone is being singled out in that film for their mediocre work (also b/c of the script)
The Burning Plain-guillermo arriaga's (sp? 21 Grams, Babel, Amores Perros fame) film is being destroyed in film festivals because of the performances and writing...
I don't know if the scripts she's chosen, but she just comes off like she's wooden as fuck and with a deer in the headlights stare.
