>Tyler Perry's 'Meet the Browns' series lands at TBS

Aug 26, 2008, 12:54 PM | by Mike Bruno

TBS announced today that it has signed on for a second Tyler Perry sitcom, placing a 10-epsiode order for Meet the Browns, a TV spin-off based on characters from Perry's popular play and movie of the same name. Perry will executive produce, direct, and sometimes write for the show, which will premiere in January. David Mann will reprise his role from the play and film as Leroy Brown, a character who inherits a dilapidated house from his deceased father. Perry also exec produces, directs, and writes for House of Payne, the TBS sitcom that set ratings records for a basic cable sitcom with its two premiere episodes in 2006. Perry's next movie, The Family That Prey's, opens Sept. 12.

I personaly can't stand ANYTHING that TP does, but he is providing jobs for young black entertainers who could potentially become quality film makers/writers

So hopefully something good will come of his buffoonery.

....I was just talking about respecting Tyler's hustle in the post that mentions how House of Payne is worth around $200 Mil. I also respect the fact that he's giving more black actors jobs like Basaglia mentioned.

The minority that does goes to every-other one more than the other:

Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns $41,975,388
Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married $55,204,525
Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls $31,366,978
Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion $63,257,940

Like I've said before, Tyler Perry's rich from making shit movies for shit money, which is the same thing Hollywood has been having black filmmakers do for years.

..not compared to the cost of the film...and hollywood BEEN tryin to make cheap successful movies for decades...it's really not a black thing...

we in here rationalizin an opinion, "TP makes shitty movie", vs the reality :TP makes cheap movies that make a very nice profit (cause many folks just wanna sit and laugh and think the saw something simple and heartfelt), aren't EVER gonna be considered for and Oscar, and you don't like it"...AGAIN i say...get the fuck over it....i don't like TP films either, but i recognize game...

Its being presented as entertaining and catchy.

ANd 'Why Did I get Married' was actually fairly
thoughtful and substantive.

His films aren't any less legitimate or authentic
than your latest Sanaa Lathan bougie snoozefest

Don't typically watch those either. The shit they market as "black" films are typically HORRIBLE. Unless it's made by Spike and even he has his moments.

typical...so scared non-blacks will view a TP movie and think that's the black experience.

once again, black people can't just make a piece of art without hankyheads being scared of how it will be interpreted by non-blacks.

black folks just can't entertain each other without being fucked with for some reason. amazing.

enjoyed Tyler Perry movies, and, after I informed him very much to the contrary, still continued to express how he thought Madea was the funniest thing ever.

A southern white man assuming that I watched (or should be watching) Tyler Perry movies simply because he was Black...*sigh*

He's a southern white man. How do you expect him to NOT reach that assumption? He wasn't trying to make a bad assumption, he was trying to befriend you because he's heard of Tyler Perry and figured you'd seen the film of the most successful black filmmaker (making films for black people, mind you) today.

i swear to gawd, that shit is HYPNOTIC.

my mind always drifts off to imagining what the writers' meetings are like...or the table readings - the smug, self-assured looks on everyone's faces as they poop out another pile of mediocrity...the post-production technician in charge of adding the canned laughter, his half-empty bottle of Bartles and James and generic Xanax pills his only companions as he randomly copies and pastes "Sassy Audience Laughter 03.wav" into Final Cut Pro

every time i flip past it on tv, i seriously have to watch a few minutes of it. it's one of the best bad tv shows of all time. i can only hope this new shitfest lives up to the daunting legacy Mr. Perry's already created.

People don't like Tyler Perry movies because...they're worried...about what white people think of us?

Huh?
