as in, the jokes aren't current?

this seems flawed to me...but i still think wayne's world is hilarious.

edit: anything in particular seem extraordinarily outdated? cause thinking back, i don't really remember *that* many jokes about the year/time that wouldn't translate to now...

the revolution will not be inboxed.

And what's dope about them is that the code of
ethics and all of that is really the same shit
going on in the streets today.

Even better, a lot of the themes have to do
with just being a man and hustling in general,
and not the drug game in particular.

In fact, there's a mini-fad now where young boys
be watching the crime movies. Not just young boys
actually. Even older cats.

My boy works with young niglets/hispligets
and made them watch Sugar Hill. After they had a
session building about character and loyalty
and all that. He said the kids felt it.

I'm just talking about the style & production of the movie, not the themes and code of ethics in the story and all that.

Sugar Hill seems less dated in that aspect, although I haven't seen it in ages so I couldn't say for sure right now. but I know Theresa Randle still look good as hell in it though.

The last one I saw that truly hadn't aged well was Boyz in the Hood...presumably because it's constantly compared to Menace, which has aged very well (Caine's corny ass acting aside). Boyz In the Hood feels like an after school special half the time. Still watchable though.

Waynes World is still hilarious to me.

maybe not as hard as I did in the mid 90's but its still funny to me. The gun rack line kills me everytime. I assume you were watching this on Comedy Central the other day, any movie can get killed on there because of the editing and constant commercial breaks.

was named Wayne's World.

they had rides called the Screamweaver, The Hurler, and there was a Stan Nikita's doughnut shop in the middle.

i remember thinking the name was outdated ten years ago, and they only recently changed the name.

it's still called the Hurler, though.

so this post is funny to me.

Stan Mikita's doughnut shop was in front as well...now it's called like Rock and Roll Cafe

did you have specially recorded videos of Wayne and Garth talking about the Hurler in line?

I heard that King's Dominion split with Paramount (?) and lost the licensing rights to the movie, so they changed it

or maybe it just was outdated

It was okay when it was released but it was very much of its time. WW2 is better but i saw the original Wayne's World in April for the first time in many many years and its painful to watch especially the talking to the camera but i can't really stand to watch any Mike Myers films and to see the Love Guru flop is karma.

I mean, we are in the Apatow Era of Realistic Raunchy Comedy With Heart

^^^ Not a diss, or an invite to an Apatow bash fest

Seems like the Mike Myers style of joke telling isn't in vogue right now (and I know, "but these movies were co-written by Bonnie and Terry Turner," thanks), based on the returns of The Love Guru

Or are we just talking about the clothing styles and stuff like that?

Just something I figured I'd throw out there

it's definitely played out. Probably a better choice of words.

The movie is just bland to me now, other than Ed O Neil's scenes, Flynn Boyle's scenes, and a couple one liners here and there.

Wayne and Garth are still two really great characters. I don't love this movie now like I did then, but I still enjoy it and rate it as one of the best comedies of the 90s.

How anyone found that scary seems bizarre these days.

I couldn't sit through that movie in it's entirety until I was in my 30's. That is by FAR the scariest movie ever made.

I fucked around and tried to sneak and watch it as a kid, and it fucked me up REAL good. To this DAY I still don't fuck with Horror movies...

you talkin' crazy, Holmes...

I mean I'm 23 and I think the first (and only) time I watched it was about 5 years ago. I can honestly say the only reaction I had to it was laughter. All that screaming and the head spinning around just seemed comically unscary.

I don't really like horror films a lot to be honest. Some like The Others, they can make me jump with the sudden moments, but I don't get disturbed by them. So maybe its just me. I can say that one film really did scare me, and that was The Shining. I saw that when I was 14 or so and shit I didn't wanna watch it again for years. I've watched more recently and its really not bad at all, but the memories of what it did to me the first time stay in my mind. I fucking hated those twins.

I finally saw it a few years ago after hearing the stories/legend on this shit. I was more inclined to laugh, even when I put my objective imagine how it was when it first came out head. Shit was just silly to me.

Now this?

I watched it around the same age one night, staying at my grandma's house. I was on my own downstairs after she'd gone to bed, so I decide to fuck with this movie.

Shit was tense in general man but when them twins appeared?! I got up, switched on the light in the living room, the lights in the hallway(my escape path)-then I went back and turned the TV off before making my way upstairs to bed.

Bredrin, my *soul* was shook offa that film.

But anyway back to furry Kangols, Jamaican wallabies.

I knew I couldn't be the only one.

That Shining stuff was on the money too. I remember sitting there with clenched fists dripping with sweat wondering if I wanted to keep going or not. I saw it all the way through but I was DISTURBED. I must also be one sadistic motherfucker cos this description had me laughing out loud just now:

I dunno what it is, but the image of a 14 year old kid suffering like that is just hilarious to me. I should probably never father children. In fact it must be genetic cos my dad once convinced my brother, when he was 5 years old, to eat a teaspoon of hot mustard. He was crying for ages.

But fuck it - imma stick to my guns. I genuinely thought The Exorcist was the MOST outdated film I've ever seen. In fact if I went to the cinema to see a new release called the Exorcist tomorrow, I'm pretty sure I would walk out.
