"Will the next Iron Man be better than Dark Knight?"
Mon Aug-11-08 02:52 PM by normal35762

I know some of you might think the first Iron Man was better than Dark Knight but still. Work with me. You think that the Iron Man people are going to make a movie to top what Dark Knight did?

I read it's a toss-up between Favreau doing Iron Man 2 or the Avengers movie. He apparently can't do both and has his heart set on Avengers.

They got Downey, they got Favreau, and they got the momentum from a strong first installment. They need to nail down the supervillain this time around 'cuz without an origin story to propel the thing, Mecha-Lebowski just ain't gonna cut it.

That last scene in Iron Man where Tony outs himself pretty much guaranteed a halfway interesting sequel. Plus we got the potential for War Machine and all those Avengers teasers the kids seem to love so much. Seems like Downey doesn't need a whole hell of a lot to work with in order to carry a film, so I'm assuming IM 2 will be a winner.

the characters in Iron Man actually smiled, frowned, laughed, cried, expressed emotion.

you give downjey, paltrow, and howard a movie in which you want them to develop their character even more and challenge themselves even more than they did in the first and there's no reason it can't knock of Spiderman 2 as the GOAT.

I'm pumped.

um...no! in fact, it's almost sorta an insult to even say that freeman and caine performances were worst than the supporting cast of ironman

and interesting you did not speak on eckharts or oldman's performances

basically TDK supporting cast >>> ironman's supporting cast

if this was just paltrow vs. maggie then pretty much everyone would agree, other than that...RDJ pretty much carried the entire movie

I dont think Iron Man has the villan to compare to dark knight. who are they going to bring in that could possibly top the Joker + Two Face?? Dark Knight was just a Masterpiece. I dont think Downey can carry Iron Man 2 on his back like he did with the first.. and If he manages to do so again it wont be better than Iron Man 1. No amount of cg will help what is clearly a weaker storyline than DK.

Batman is all about his crazy guy who has NO life other than fighting crime...

Iron Man, is about a guy finding who he truly is and stepping his game up to help the world, and having fun doing it...

...i liked both movies, but if the next Iron Man is gonna be anywhere near as dark as TDK, then i'm not interested...Tony took a way more fun spin on heroics than Bruce did, and what one lacks, the other makes up for...they're amost complementary pieces to me...

That's what is made the Dark Knight corny to me. It was big
boring dark cliche. I'm not of the "dark" = Profound ilk.

I find fun to be as profound, or more, than darkness.

there wasn't a casual moment in the entire
movie

sort of what made it boring to me

It was a big intense over-done fest

No relax time, no regular conversations about
anything

Just waaay overboard

alcoholism is regular people shit. I can fuck with
that. And its more relevant, which makes it "deeper"

>fuck do you want them to do? its already almost 3 hours

That's exactly what I mean: A movie 3 hours long
didn't have no time for no genuine interactions
between people?

Every single scene is hyper-intense and over-directed,
over-acted.

I mean, goddamn the Lord of the Rings were BASED IN
MIDDLE EARTH and had more GENUINE INTERACTIONS that
resembled actual human beings than The Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight is like real-life anime, and shit

Haha

Perfect analogy

They at least stuck to a single story, and focused
on it

It was still very sappy and silly, but they stuck
to it and kept it neat

The Dark Knight, on the other hand was a loose, wet,
baggy, mess of a film

But Dicap's dumb ass, unnecessary death
at the end was pretty close to Two Face's
dumbass, unnecessary existence

Curious what you think

>ummm, so every conservation between bruce & alfred don't count
>huh?

No, they were all philosophical babble

>so, interaction between bruce, dent, and gordon on the rooftop
>didn't either?

More psycho babble and forced just to set up scenes
later

Every syllable was scripted to specifically set up
one of the horror scenes

>or, dent & gordon at the hospital? or dent & the joker at the
>hospital?

Joker was supernatural. He didn't have a genuine
interaction the entire movie. He can't, because
he's supposed to be the
"embodiment of pure evil, right?" Lol

And even the love scenes were bland and contrived

I didn't feel like none of those niggas actually
loved Rachel

Poorly written, poorly executed, because it
was so contrived

>or you must of took a piss during the ENTIRE INTERROGATION
>SCENE right down the the bodygaurd detective???

You think that was a genuine interaction?

LOL

>you're a hilarious dude, though....

nope, exposition upon exposition and setups for future events in the plot. tells bruce to know his limits and wishes he won't have to tell him the day he reaches them, he told him so. he reaches it at the middle of the movie.

>so, interaction between bruce, dent, and gordon on the rooftop
>didn't either?
>

nope, explains as to why ramiriez and wertz were crooked cops. dent mentions it.

>or, dent & gordon at the hospital? or dent & the joker at the
>hospital?

explains Harvey's name. joker explains why he does what he does.

>

joker explains how the people will turn on Batman. again, a setup for the last scene were Batman "lives long enough to be the villain".

>you're a hilarious dude, though....

no, your delusion is sir.

explanations, no real conversations. its harder and a challenge to write that way. its lazy to have the characters explain the entire plot through dialogue, reducing them to stick-figures with voices as opposed to humans with real interactions. Nolan's Batman franchise is supposed to be "more real" than the previous Batman's. oh the irony...

in order for iron man 2 to become better than TDK it would have to take that risk of not being a "fun" summer blockbuster and transform it into a all-serious action-drama

which is capable of doing, especially when they left a loose end from the 1st movie with that taliban leader wanting to get the secrets to ironman's armor.

how they go about is is almost similar to TDK, but in a larger scale. where TDK looks at domestic terrorism, ironman has the ability to push it to a worldwide war on terrorism with a villain who's terrorist attacks simulatneously around the world. starks can still have his arrogant swag and charisma, but the tone of the movie would be completely serious with WAY more action as well as WAY more unique ways to use the ironman suit

and to the icings to the cake, it has to give an extreme expansion to the marvel universe

with that said, i don't think marvel or the director is going to have that in mind, they'll go to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" move and make another fun, non-substanced based, film that will help build up to the eventual AVENGERS movie...

these movies aren't even meant to be analyzed this much, and they were both great...BUT, Marvel vs DC constants get the most mileage from this debate...

TDK was good, but not enjoyable.
I spent most of the 2.5 hours all wound up and on edge as an audience member.

With Iron Man, there were comedic parts to balance out the action.
That made for a better film, IMO.

I mean sure, Mandarin is OK but come on, a green Chinese dude with power rings on each finger...it just doesn't make good for the movies.

Wow, my login still works 🤦🏾‍♂️

The "Mandarin" is extremely charismatic as well as a diabolical mastermind. It would be disappointing if he fights Justin Hammer in a tech suit and still just hints to Mandarin's existence. I hope they get an Asian actor for the role who can pull off speaking English for American audiences. Also, Iron Man II would need some memorable scenes since I forgot most of what happened in the first movie after seeing The Dark Knight...

On The Lookout 4:
some new music. WTF is going on this year?
