"Brad Pitt & Leonardo DiCaprio are Tarantino's 'Inglorious Bastards'?"

Basaglia's gonna be mad

Source: Variety
July 16, 2008

Variety reports that Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards" is searching for a co-financing partner to handle offshore territories for the WWII drama with intersecting storylines.

The director met with Brad Pitt in France on Tuesday to talk about the possibility of Pitt playing the key role of Aldo Raine. Tarantino also plans to meet with Leonardo DiCaprio for another lead role, that of Hans Landa, on Thursday.

DiCaprio and Pitt would be appearing in a Tarantino-helmed project for the first time, though Pitt previously spoke Tarantino-scripted dialogue in a small but memorable stoner turn in the Tony Scott-directed "True Romance."

The film will shoot this fall in Germany and also in France, where Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been residing.

di caprio is also completely unable to appear menacing

this does not bode well. the script looked very promising too (return to dialogue-driven film-making)

I'll admit, I was no fan during their Titanic/Legend of the Fall days...

...but they're honed their crafts. Few of the leading men can mess with them these days. Esp. Pitt

They both can act circles around Capt. Chipmunk "Valkrye" Mapother.

Pegg, Kinski, Krumholtz in talks to join film

Source: Variety
August 7, 2008

Brad Pitt has closed his deal to star in "Inglorious Bastards," the WWII drama that Quentin Tarantino will direct for the Weinstein Co. and Universal.

Additionally, Nastassja Kinski is in early talks to play one of the sole female roles in the film. Casting the German-born actress jibes with Tarantino's habit of resuscitating dormant careers. Kinski, who has stayed away from mainstream American films for nearly a decade, would play a German movie queen.

Much of the pic's dialogue is in French or German, and subtitles will be used, though Pitt will speak English in his role as a Tennessee hillbilly who assembles a team of eight Jewish-American soldiers to take on the Nazis.

Simon Pegg, David Krumholtz and B.J. Novak are also in talks to join the project. Pegg would play a British lieutenant, while Krumholtz and Novak would play Pitt's underlings.

Pic begins production Oct. 13 in Germany. Tarantino, who wrote the script, is aiming to complete the film and have it ready for next year's Cannes Film Festival. Lawrence Bender is producing, with Erica Steinberg and Harvey and Bob Weinstein as executive producers. Pilar Savone is associate producer.

Deal puts Pitt back in business with Universal; apparently he and the studio have patched things up following his last-minute exit from "State of Play" late last year.

Under the terms of Tarantino's deal, he receives 20% of first-dollar grosses. That percentage can be reduced if a first-dollar gross star like Pitt joins the cast, though it's unclear if Tarantino is ceding any of his points to the star.

Bender said casting should be complete in about a week or two. Eli Roth will play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz, and Tarantino is locking in the other actors to play the soldiers who make up the Bastards team. Tarantino regular Tim Roth had been in contention to join the cast but couldn't work out the scheduling because of his upcoming TV series "Lie to Me."

While Pitt will be working for the first time with Tarantino as director, he does have on his resume a small but memorable turn as a stoner in the Tony Scott-directed "True Romance," a script that Tarantino wrote between "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction."

Source: The Hollywood Reporter
August 7, 2008

"The Office" star B.J. Novak is in talks to play one of the soldiers in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards," says The Hollywood Reporter.

Novak is expected to play PFC Utivich, described as a soldier of slight build who comes from New York.

Casting is being finalized on the Weinstein Company-Universal "Bastards," which is expected to shoot in the fall in Europe and wrap in time for a potential Cannes debut in May.

Brad Pitt is in talks to play Aldo Raine, leader of a rogue band of Jewish-American soldiers who wreak havoc on the bad guys in Nazi-occupied France.

Eli Roth is in talks to play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz.

QT better not fail this time - or it's over for him! He has coasted thru the years lately and needs a hit badly. What kind of witty talk can you have in a ww2 movie? will he show a close-up of feet as usual? will brad pitt dance with someone mid-way thru the movie ala travolta? the soundtrack will be good - that's a given.

Ocean's 14:WW2 Edition >>>> Spike's masterpiece on the way

Odd, because not even Basa used box office to argue
about the caliber of films. Basa uses it, correctly,
to talk about how a lot of hyped white directors flop,
which is inexcusable.

Night Dogg's recent flops are routine for white
directors, yet are magnified for Night Dogg.

I just love QT because Robert Rodriguez('Xican!)
is using QT like niggas on my high school football
team used white boys for rides everywhere("Billy, good
game today. Thanks for blocking for my fast, studly
black ass. what you doin now? Yo, run me over to this thong
and sex party at Eva's crib. They want me there.
Naw you can't come.")

Your going to pay $13 and buy a bag of extreme sour Gummicocks just to see how "bad" it'll be.

FOH.

Why don't you spend your money on something that'll satisfy you better, like the docks at 3 AM.

after Death Proof failed miserably

now he is bringing in "stars" and "celebrities" to help sell this flick. Wasn't too long ago (well in Tarantino years, 3 years = 1 year), he was bragging about how he could get stars to star in his movie but it aint no fun.

he starting to realize the Tarantino name aint selling sh*t no more. Last time it did, Rodriguez used it for a *ahem* "guest director" *ahem* to help add more ticket sales to his Sin City.

Leo and Brad Pitt? lol

Eli Roth? lol

he wants to release it this year?

damn, he scared. maybe thats a good thing for him. get out that comfort zone. but, its too late anyway.

his last form of greatness was his 1st film, Reservoir Dogs. that was the movie he should have built upon.

not that bullsh*t Pulp Fiction. that movie, and the success and adulation that reinforced his flaws in filmmaking, has gotten him stuck right now in his career.

had Death Proof had not flopped, QT (with the urging from Bob and Harvey) wouldn't be on his hands and knees begging Leo and Brad Pitt to be in this movie.

35. "Mike Myers Joins Tarantino's Bastards"
In response to Reply # 0

Source: The Quentin Tarantino Archives
August 14, 2008

The Quentin Tarantino Archives has learned that Mike Myers ("Austin Powers" films, The Love Guru) will play a small role in Tarantino's WWII drama Inglorious Bastards.

The comedian/actor is joining a cast that so far includes Brad Pitt, Nastassja Kinski, Simon Pegg, David Krumholtz, B.J. Novak and Eli Roth.

The film begins production on October 13 in Germany. Tarantino, who wrote the script, is aiming to complete the film and have it ready for next year's Cannes Film Festival.

In the film, a band of U.S. soldiers facing death by firing squad for their misdeeds are given a chance to redeem themselves by heading into the perilous no-man's lands of Nazi-occupied France on a suicide mission for the Allies.

At the very least, it's Dirty Dozen meets Force 10 from Navarone (an underrated war film)

39. "I think just the name (and that film was a rip-off of Dirty Dozen)"
In response to Reply # 38

The plot sounds kind of cool: This is an Italian made cash-in on Robert Aldrich's The Dirty Dozen. Set in Europe during World War II, a group of American soldiers are in the process of being shipped off to military prison for a variety of infractions, ranging from desertion to murder. While they're being transported, a German air attack hits the convoy, killing most of the MPs and enabling five of the prisoners to escape.

The group decides their best bet is to head to neutral Switzerland, where they can avoid the fighting and prison. As they make their way to what they think will be freedom, they end up volunteering for a commando mission to steal a new V2 equipment with help of the French Underground. Somehow the team must sneak into the most heavily guarded train in German territory, steal the Nazis' most precious military hardware, and bring it back to the Allies without getting arrested again by their own side.
---

So they are running from the Americans and the Nazis.

QT's version is more like The Dirty Dozen: "Two story lines... converge: One follows a group of prisoners-turned-soldiers whose mission is to take down a group of Nazis, and the other follows a young Jewish woman who seeks to avenge the death of her parents by this Nazi group."

I feel like QT is trying to get together one of those weird disaster movie casts with all sorts of random actors.

"Inglorious Bastards" writer/director Quentin Tarantino has cast actors Diane Kruger (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1208167/), Christoph Waltz (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0910607/) and Paul Rust (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1770256/) in the Weinstein Co./Universal drama.

They join Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Mike Myers, Michael Fassbender (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1055413/), B.J. Novak and Samm Levine (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0505949/).

Kruger plays German actress Bridget Von Hammersmark, who figures prominently in a plot to sabotage the Nazis. It is a role for which Nastassja Kinski was first mentioned.

Waltz, who is best known in Germany for his television work, has landed the role of Col. Hans Landa, who is the primary antagonist.

The film begins production Oct. 13 in Germany.
