hmmmmmm I saw the original black and white joint, and they didn't veer that far off from the original, except they may have dump some trivial plot sequences from the original, especially the last half of the movie. I'm trippin' of the "new technology" they introduced to explain some of the power of the "visitors". Reeves was PERFECT for this robotic ass roll, and Connelly seemed all right in a more "cerebral" character than the norm. Jaden Smith got to "act his age" kinda in the flick, nothing spectacular, but they didn't make him too "unbelievable". The Wolverine Trailer was AHA! AHA!

It looks like the studio is expecting this to bomb something serious. Word is that it's going to break the record for playing in the most theatres on opening weekend. The studio behind the first Hulk movie tried a similar technique. The people behind that marketed the crap out of Hulk in order to pull more movie watchers on opening day in order to curb the impact of the bad word of mouth.

I never seen the original, but this is very unsatisfying from beginning to end. Jennifer Connelly didn't do anything, she was there and was talking but I didn't understand her importance. You can replace any actress in that role, and I still wouldn't known the point of the character beside her convincing Klaatu to save mankind. Plus the message was being hammered towards the audience too much. It seem like Wall-E and The Happening already did this, why did they do it again with this movie? Anyways, as for Jaden Smith, he needs a few more acting lessons. I guess it wasn't intentionally suppose to be a blockbuster, but why waste film...and time.

you actually HATE the only character you remotely give a shit about in the entire movie. Also, Jennifer Connelly looks like she hit one rock too many in prep for this role, and somehow Keanu Reeves has finally found a script MORE boring than the expression on his face.
And I'm trying not to hate Jaden Smith, but it's really fucking hard.

It's a little drab... having a funny character or someone to keep the mood less gloomy would've helped a bit, or pack it with a bit more action. It just sort of sits there after an interesting beginning.
It doesn't help that there are a couple of WILDLY stupid things that occur in this film, especially at the end, where the movie forgets its own rules.
the solution seems to be when aliens show lets shoot it if it talks shoot.it moves shoot.it runs away shoot it if it is smarter, faster, more powerful doesn't matter shoot it

The original War of the Worlds is one of the best films ever made. I don't even like the version with Tom but it is still a waaay better film than this catastrophe with Keanu.

This shit is garbage, the plot contradicts itself and this version is untrue to the original 1951 story. IMO this film and dialogue are dumbed down.
Spoiler In the original Klaatu came to earth because humans were clearly a threat not only to themselves but also to other inhabitants of the galaxy. This time around it is the environmental crisis that prompts Klaatu to come to earth. At the end of the film Klaatu realizes humans can love so all plans to destroy humans are abandoned this contradicts his reasons for coming in the first place and GORT is also destroyed. The script is complete garbage. Klaatu is an alien in human form and that is not fully explained either.
Grade: D-isappointing If you are a fan of the original SKIP this!
