"''Leverage'' (TNT) Pre-air"
Tue Jun-24-08 04:58 AM by m

Just watched the pilot. Worth seeking out... pretty good heist show. Supposed to debut on TNT this fall.

--

According to John Rogers (writer, co-producer): "We were very specifically aiming for a Rockford Files/Ocean's 11 vibe."

--

Source: TNT
February 13, 2008

TNT has given the greenlight to the thrilling, action-packed drama series "Leverage," starring Oscar winner Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People, "Nero Wolfe") and executive-produced by Dean Devlin (Independence Day, TNT's "The Librarian") and John Rogers ("Cosby").

The series follows a team of thieves, hackers and grifters who act as modern-day Robin Hoods, taking revenge against those who use power and wealth to victimize others. TNT has ordered 13 episodes of "Leverage," which comes to the network from Devlin's Electric Entertainment. Devlin makes his directorial debut on the pilot, which was written by Rogers (Transformers) and Chris Downey ("The King of Queens"). "Leverage" is slated to premiere on TNT later this year.

"'Leverage' is great entertainment," said Michael Wright, senior vice president in charge of the content creation group for TNT, TBS and TCM. "It's fast-paced, smart and just great fun. Dean Devlin directed the pilot to perfection. Timothy Hutton is outstanding, and he and the cast around him have a great chemistry. This is a new genre for us in our series efforts, and it's great to be able to tackle it with Dean. His 'Librarian' movies for TNT have been huge successes. We couldn't be happier having him and John Rogers bring that same sense of style and storytelling to us in series form."

In "Leverage," Hutton plays former insurance investigator Nate Ford, a once-loyal corporate employee who had recovered millions of dollars in stolen goods for his employer. But when that employer denied his son's insurance claims and allowed the boy to die, he realized he could no longer work for such an entity.

Out of work and descending into alcoholism, Ford is hired by an aeronautics executive to recover airplane designs the executive claims were stolen by a rival company. Helping him are four highly skilled team members: Parker (Beth Riesgraf, Alvin and the Chipmunks), an expert thief; Alex Hardison (Aldis Hodge, "Friday Night Lights"), a specialist in Internet and computer fraud; Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane, "Into the West"), a high-octane "retrieval specialist" who can take out a gang of henchmen without breaking a sweat; and Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman, "Coupling"), a grifter who could win awards for her acting skills during difficult scams. At first the newly formed team is hesitant to trust each other after so many years working alone but being double-crossed changes the dynamic, ultimately forcing them to unite. They emerge from the job realizing they are far better working together than apart. Once they discover they can trust each other the group targets their cons toward the richest, the greediest and the most unjust.

"smith" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0805667/) and "heist" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0491281/).

unfortunately neither one of them made it through the first season though.

"smith" could've been on showtime or hbo, it was that good.

both are worth checking out via download... as i don't believe either ever officially was released on dvd :\ even unfinished, i would buy both of them...

especially if shows get canceled without any reason/warning... these are the best outlets to find out why.

fred goss (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1533705/) the writer/creator/actor of the hilarious "sons & daughters" went on a rampage on his myspace blog (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=64974287) after "sons & daughters" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460676/) was canceled by abc ("sons & daughters" was an nbc/universal show that aired on abc, if i remember correctly). unfortunately, the dvds will probably never be released because of the music rights not being agreed to originally for dvd release... i'm guessing that stuff is handled these days a little better for shows like "swingtown" and "life on mars" where the music is an integral part of the show.

i'm not sure if the myspace blog entries have been edited since he originally wrote them -- i'm guessing they were if "carpoolers" was also a nbc/universal production.

i know critics have been complaining about the lack of character development...

but like the characters and the team. slowly revealing bits of who they are will work in the long run.

plus, timothy hutton is great as a lead...

Christian Kane's character--Parker--is kinda weak though (i just can't believe his 5'8 ass took out all them serbs/croats/ethnically ambiguous eastern europeans with no gun...i mean, it hink a crowbar to the face and a boot kick to the stomach would take him out pronto..but that's me) but, he's growing on me.

ill have to catch last night's ep online since i missed it.

looking forward to the series.

though you have to wonder if it will get repetitive if they just hustle a different corporation every week and get away clean... it may work better off as 1 ongoing job... but even that could drag on. so basically we will see where they go with it, but the pilot was very good.

Which it was. Could be an interesting show. A kind of modern day A-Team, I guess. Wasn't blown away by the pilot but there's room to grow.

Not good but not unwatchable either. Probably something I'll DVR and then throw on when I'm going to sleep.

I liked how they made Voodoo a nerd but they need to give him some better lines. And I swear that Hutton called him Aldis once, which is his real name, not his character name.

I'll give it another shot but the expectations have pretty much disappeared.

only coming back with, i think, 6-8 eps for the winter. i'm not sure.

but, Burn Notice is still keeping my attention, even with that dead ass Carla/clearing my name storyline, i still watch and will continue to watch.

Sharon Gless..and the rest of the class, is slept on Golden Globe/Emmy goodness.

And, Jeffrey Donovan, is pitch perfect as Michael Westen

at 10pm, i think. yea, i dig jeffrey donovan the role is tailored for him (his role in Changeling--WAS NOT).

the finale was undwerwhelming..and i still am not feeling Carla--I love Tricia Helfer, but her character is tres weak.

so we'll see how the rest of the season is resolved...

still don't get why this show isn't getting the love it should. i guess it's the mix of comedy and drama that confounds folks...

the hate bandwagon starts when IIIIIII say it does

I'm cutting it slack because I'd like to see a good heist show, it's not there yet, but...maybe?

So it's BBC's the Hustle + Oceans 11 and various other Heist movies.

How many times can we have a white chick break dance through lasers?

I've watched 2 episodes and it showed up in both!
