Oh wait.

Uhhh, Futurama?

Damn.

All jokes aside I thought Carnivale could've been done a lot better if they were allowed to expand through a third season.

Just seems like they realized two was all they were going to get so they wrapped it up as fast as they could

They were writing that show like they were only expecting to last 2 seasons. Sadly they lasted 5. I didn't even watch the last one.

Those first two seasons were amazingly addictive, then they botched the pretty interesting 3rd season premise. After the 4th season I quit. I wound up catching the 5th season on DVD and it was surprisingly good. It easily beats out the 3rd and 4th seasons.

Fun is the new gritty

It was a drop off, no doubt about it. But I was still playing catch-up on the DVDs so at least I was able to watch it marathon style so it was quick and painless.

But Season 4, yeesh. I might not have even finished it.

By the way, is there a name for the phenomenon of LOVING a show on DVD, then once you're caught up and it's time to watch new episodes on a weekly basis, they just don't seem as good?

In this case they really weren't as good, but I've had other instances where watching the show in a slower rhythm than I'd been used to actually took away from my enjoyment of them.

cause they really fucked up season 3 with all those characters who were weak, etc.

plus, nadia (mia maestro) had potential but they made her weak and whiny and that just didnt jibe with who syd was...

but 1 and 2 were the best of the show, with 5 coming right behind it.

Simpsons?

I think this will actually be harder than the other way around.

Although I guess a lot of shows have pretty solid third seasons. The big dropoff usually seems to hit around season 4-5.

who could have guessed that dropping the sole reason for the spinoff would actually improve the show?

I can't think of any other time that's happened.

We got this far into the post and no one named that yet. I know a lot of people around here hated the second season, but looking back, the second season is one of the best.

Scrubs- arguably hit its peak in the third season, but the first two were pretty damn good

Personally, I'm 4-2-3-1-5.

But there wasn't a drop off. I just preferred them slightly above other seasons. The quality was always there.

When it bounced between Wed, Thurs and obscurity unitl it was release on DVD. First two seasons definitely surpass his later one short punctuated joke after antoher style.
