I don't remember the details, but the director of the pilot is fiscally connected to the rest of the series. Like they get residuals off every future episode even if they don't direct any other episodes. So he may not be hard up for cash, but it's potentially a huge pay day.
The justification on the other end is that the pilot director creates the look and feel that they try to mimic throughout the rest of the series.
So recently there have been lots of more prominent feature film directors helming pilots.

Dunno if I'm in love with it, but it is a lot of fun. Great premise... though even in this one episode I thought they were sort of beating the premise into my head a bit, but I guess that's to be expected with a relatively high concept show so early in its run.
The guy they cast as the idiot friend is great. He really plays it well.

But they make some pretty big jumps when trying to justify why the souls are doing what they are doing, like last night they said "Oh, it makes sense, his wife was eaten by bugs"...what? How does that make sense really?

Just the whole premise of the show really... Like why does the devil, with all his great power, need this schmuck to run around collecting souls for him with a broken toaster?
The vessel gimmick is already getting kinda tired.
The whole soul-catching formula doesn't do a whole lot for me either. But they did try and put a little twist on it last night, and I imagine they'll play around with it enough to keep things semi-interesting.

I can sorta buy that the devil is a lazy ass and would really want others to do his job. My main hang up is why he gives him those cryptic ass clues.

After seeing last night's ep, I really feel like the Devil is trying to help dude figure himself out. Especially when he was talking to dude about getting his shit together and makin' moves on that chick. I got the feeling that the Devil sees potential in this dude and, in a sick twisted way, is trying to help him get his act together and enjoy life.
Of course, he could just be wanting dude to enjoy life since he wants dude to be around to collect the souls and all. I mean, who wants a Gloomy-Gus doing a half-assed job, right?

I really, really liked it.
I dvr'd last night's ep, so I'll be catching up there. Feels like a show I'll like watching through its run, and I'm glad it's on a Tuesday when nothing else I watch is on.

While watching this past week's ep with the 8-track, I started to think about the pilot episode. Why didn't Sam just will the 8-track from under the car to him? I thought the Devil gave him some otherworldly powers to assist him while catching souls? Has he even used them since the pilot ep?
Just something that popped into my head while watching the show.
I like this show a lot. Sure it isnt the greatest show in the world, but I find it very entertaining. What the hell else would the CW show in its place?!?! Damnit this news make this crappy day even worse for me.
