"Subtle things in movies...that could easily be missed/overlooked.."

Two that come to mind (cause I aint catch them till bout my 3rd or 4th time seeing the movies)

1)Spiderman 2
In the end when MJ is running through the park in her wedding dress, she runs by none other than....The Punisher (from the recent punisher movie) He pauses and turns as she runs by.

2)Friday
When Craig's girlfriend is on the phone accusing him of cheating "you aint gota lie craig...you aint gotta lie!"
I never noticed that the whole time she got some other nigga sleep laid up in the bed next to her! LOL!

pls add on to some suble things from movie that you think others have missed or that you didnt catch the 1st time around.

When Sam calls his father to tell him the sewer has backed up into the school, Kirsten Dunst is standing at his elbow, her sweater pulled up over her nose and mouth. Dunst was on set visiting Jake Gyllenhaal, whom she was dating at the time.

which The Dude repeats later to Mr. Lebowski.

and then Maude says to The Dude that Bunny has been "banging" Jackie Treehorn "to use the parlance of our times", and then The Dude repeats that expression later when he's telling Mr. Lebowski that Bunny kidnapped herself, explaining "Young trophy wife, I mean, in the parlance of our times..."

shit is hilarious when you pick up on that.

When Neo fights Morpheus in the construct, the three pieces of music that play on the score are termed the "Bow Whisk Orchestra" by composer Don Davis, the song "Leave You Far Behind" by Lunatic Asylum, and another piece by Davis called "Switch or Break Show." Both "Bow Whisk Orchestra" & "Switch Or Break Show" are anagrams of "Wachowski Brothers", the directors of "The Matrix". Also, when Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity return to the building after visiting the Oracle, the piece of music that plays is called "Threat Mix." Later, when in the same building Morpheus fights Agent Smith, the musical piece is called "Exit Mr. Hat." Both "Threat Mix" & "Exit Mr. Hat" are anagrams of "The Matrix."

34. "THE USE OF COLOR"
In response to Reply # 33

Colors play an important part in setting up the “sides,” so to speak,
between the world of the villain and the world of the hero.
Color also helps to visually tell this story and
gives us a hint of things to come.

GREEN

After a dull, colorless winter (like David's life), GREEN reappears in the spring and has become a symbol of growth, abundance, and life (possibly representing David's renewal of life).
____________________

Many times when we see David, his wife Audrey, or his son Joseph, they are wearing GREEN in some fashion.

____________________

David's "day job" security clothes are mostly GREEN.
_____

David wears a GREEN poncho as his "uniform."
_____

David drives a GREEN truck.
____________________

At the hospital, Joseph is wearing a GREEN jacket
_____

In the weight lifting scene, Joseph is wearing a GREEN sweater jacket.
_____

In the breakfast scene where David reveals his superhero identity to his son, Joseph is
wearing a GREEN tie-die shirt.
____________________

The Dunne’s kitchen, as well as most of the house, is entirely GREEN as well. Even the awnings above their front door are GREEN.

PURPLE

PURPLE represents royalty, power, and leadership. Elijah acted as David's leader or mentor throughout their journey.
____________________

Every time we see Elijah Price or his mother they are wearing PURPLE. Whether it be in the lavish coats Elijah wears, his cane, or his mother’s dress at the end, PURPLE is always present in his scenes.
____________________

Even the gift box that contained Elijah’s first comic was wrapped in PURPLE wrapping paper.
____________________

In addition, comic book villains such as Lex Luthor, The Joker, Magneto, and many others often are depicted in PURPLE.
____________________

The female sports agent on the train who David was flirting with was wearing PURPLE.
____________________

GREEN and PURPLE are also somewhat opposite to each other on the color wheel. This adds to Elijah’s theory that he and David are on opposite ends of the “spectrum.”

Also, notice the tile in the rehabilitation room with Audrey and Elijah. It's has two square patterns: GREEN/YELLOW and PURPLE/LIGHT BLUE - David's colors and Elijah's colors.
__________

ORANGE, YELLOW, AND RED

These colors seem to signify evil, hate, or anything bad – especially in the “visions” David has.
____________________

Of course, there is the ORANGE jumpsuit man who David fights and kills.
_____

There is the man with the silver gun at the stadium who had on an ORANGE camouflage jacket.
____________________

The little girl that David stares at on the train is wearing a YELLOW shirt. Possibly foreshadowing the train wreck.
_____

When David meets his family in the hospital after the train wreck, his wife is wearing YELLOW as well. We watch as Joseph pulls their hands together. Then, as they continue walking, they let go of each others hands. Again, something that's not right.
_____

There is the man with the YELLOW flannel jacket who hits the lady in the head with the bottle.
____________________

Finally, there is the lady with the RED jacket who steals the jewelry.
____________________

· In the scene at the rehabilitation center where a woman tells Audrey that Elijah is there, notice the child directly behind Audrey. He is stacking GREEN and ORANGE cones on top of one another. Possibly a bit foreshadowing?

Many of the scenes or shots featured in Unbreakable have some
sort of glass in them. The teaser trailer features
broken glass throughout, so this theory
would seem plausible.

Of course, there’s the three introductions of Elijah that feature his reflection in a MIRROR or GLASS.
_____

In the train at the beginning, David is leaning his head against a WINDOW.

David sees an invitation to the art gallery through his WINDSHIELD.
_____

David tells his son to throw out the GLASS of water.
_____

Elijah sees the man with the silver gun in the MIRROR of his car.

The guy with a yellow jacket hits the pedestrian with a GLASS bottle.

36. "THE ORANGE JUICE THEORY"
In response to Reply # 33

If you take all of the theories and kind
of mix them into one, you get
"The Orange Juice Theory."

During the breakfast scene, just before David reveals to his son that he is the one on the front page of the newspaper, Joseph pours absolutely pure ORANGE juice into a GLASS. The camera then stays on a shot of just the glass for about three seconds from Joseph’s point of view as he stares at it.

Staying with the various color and glass themes throughout the film and with a bit of foreshadowing, we could assume that...

“Mr. Glass is full of pure evil.”

Staying true to the color theory that ORANGE, YELLOW, and RED represent evil, hate, or anything bad, take into consideration a theory about the possible fate of one of the characters:

EVERY TIME we see Joseph Dunne (David’s son), he is wearing mostly GREEN with either ORANGE, YELLOW, OR RED.

_____

When he is watching the news report of the train wreck, he's wearing a GREEN and ORANGE striped shirt.
_____

When he meets David at the hospital, he's wearing a GREEN jacket with YELLOW stripes on the sleeves.
_____

During the weightlifting scene, he's wearing a GREEN sweater jacket with a RED shirt underneath.
_____

When he attempts to shoot David, he's wearing and RED and ORANGE shirt.
_____

And in the breakfast scene toward the end of the film, he’s wearing a GREEN shirt with an ORANGE stripe around the middle.
_____

Add all of that to the fact that after hesitating he drinks pure ORANGE juice from a GLASS during the breakfast scene and see what I’m getting at? Is it possible that Shyamalan could be planting the seeds that Joseph could eventually turn toward the dark side and go against his father?

We saw what could be hints of his eventual turn when Joseph told his dad, “I’m not like you,” or when he holds the gun in attempt to shoot his father. And notice that when Joseph is watching the train wreck report on TV, he sees it UPSIDE DOWN. Only one other character in the movie has a "skewed perspective on life," ……..and that's Elijah. With a little help from old Mr. Glass, Joseph just might go bad. This could become a very plausible possibility.

It's common in comic book lore and literature in general for a villain to use the hero's offspring or "surrogate" offspring against them. Especially if the villain isn't powerful enough to combat the hero physically. Look at Batman Beyond:the return of the Joker for a current example. And Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars series. That's what makes Elijah (or Mr. Glass) such a dangerous enemy. He knows all about David and his family. As showed with the upside-down TV, Joseph already has a little bit of a "distorted view of the world inside him." Threatening his father with a gun shows no thought for consequences beyond the desire to prove to himself and his father that David IS superhuman. Sound like Mr. Glass at all? Mr. Glass' speculations on comic parallels to "real life" can sound almost childlike at times...that's something that could be very appealing to a child. And that's something that Mr. Glass can use to win over Joseph. Mr. Glass might even use Joseph in such a way that Joseph might actually think he's helping his dad, but in fact, putting him in danger.

37. "ALLUSIONS TO DAVID DUNNE AS THE SUPERHERO"
In response to Reply # 33

First of all, the name itself – David Dunne – shares a likeliness to many comic book superheroes in that the first letters of his first and last name are the same. We see this trend in such comic names as Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Bruce Banner (The Hulk), Scott Summer (Cyclops), Clark Kent (Superman (I know, but the letters sound the same), and many other characters in the world of comics.
____________________
Of course, the fact that he’s the only survivor of the train wreck, with not so much as a scratch on him, is another clue that David is not an ordinary man.
____________________
As stated by Elijah in the film, David may have chosen the occupation as a security guard because he has a knack for protecting people – just as any super hero does.
____________________
In the scene just before David and Audrey go on a date, Joseph is playing with a GREEN and YELLOW action figure superhero. Since those seem to be David's "colors," this is another allusion to David being a real life superhero. (And the “hero” with the cape is Green while the “Bad Guy” is Yellow)
____________________

Elijah mentions to David over the answering machine that water is like David’s Kryptonite. This is one of the first real clues that links him to his eventual super hero revelation, and more specifically, his parallels with Superman. Most superheroes have one significant weakness, and David's is water. But as we all know, he even overcomes that obstacle.
____________________

After the two girls rescue David from drowning in the pool, there is a low angle shot right behind David’s feet that cuts off just below his knees. His draping dark green poncho reminds us of Superman’s cape. This is a familiar shot that is reminiscent of and featured in many Superman comics and movies.
____________________
Upon arriving home after his battle with the man in the orange jumpsuit, David hangs his security guard “uniform” up in his closet just as any other super hero would do, such as Superman or Batman.
____________________
In the next scene, David is carrying his wife Audrey up the stairs to his room. We never actually see David’s feet or the lower half of his body. It almost appears as though he’s slowly flying or ascending upwards. This could possibly be an ode to Superman carrying Louis Lane as he flies.
____________________
In the newspaper article on the front page the next morning, the drawing of the mysterious hooded figure looks very much like a comic book drawing or figure. This almost finalizes the fact that Dunne is a real life superhero. The drawing even depicts the square jaw common to most superheroes.
____________________
After showing his son the newspaper article, Dunne motions to his son with a “shhh” to keep his identity a secret from Audrey. As in most comic books, the superhero tries to keep his/her identity a secret.

38. "ALLUSIONS TO ELIJAH PRICE AS THE VILLAIN"
In response to Reply # 33

Of course, there is the fact that Elijah is the polar opposite of David - David is unbreakable while Elijah is extremely breakable. Many superheroes and their villains are "opposites." To better emphasize that point, the first three times we see Elijah in the film, we see him in a glass reflection. Obviously, this is to signify his “breakable” condition.
__________

In the opening scene of the film in 1961, the first shot, we see the infant Elijah in the reflection of the dressing room mirror.
_____

The next time we see Elijah he is a 13 year-old child in 1974. We see his reflection in the television set.
_____

Finally, we see Elijah in the reflection of the vintage comic art piece in his store, “Limited Edition” as he describes the characteristics of the piece to a not so potential buyer.

Elijah’s hair is big and combed funky to make his head appear as though it were proportionally larger than his body – something that Elijah himself states is a common characteristic among villains. His coats and wardrobe often make his body appear slender to accentuate this feature even more.
____________________

Elijah's eyes. Just as his mother stated, villains are often depicted with larger than normal eyes. And Samuel L. Jackson has some big eyes in comparison to David’s.
____________________

In a lot of scenes, when we are looking through Elijah's point of view, the camera sometimes gives us an upside down shot. It does this both times when Elijah has a comic book in his lap. And when he sees the man with the gun in the subway station. This could possibly represent Elijah's "skewed perspective on the world," as his mother stated.
____________________

In the comic book store, Elijah knocks over the comic books THREE times, causing destruction to eventually find "the one" comic book that he needs. This could parallel to the THREE times he actually did cause destruction in the city to find "the one" person he was looking for. (A Stretch...I know.)
____________________

His car. If that’s not a villain’s car, I don’t know what is. LOL

Just like many comic book archenemies, Mr. Glass knows all about Everyman, which makes him VERY dangerous, even though he's not a physical match to Everyman. Lex Luthor is very inferior to Superman, but he knows his weaknesses (kryptonite) and plays mind games with him. Bane knows all of Batman's secrets and used that to break him. The Green Goblin knows Spider-man's identity, and the second Green Goblin was even Spider-man's best friend before he turned evil. Magneto was good friends with Charles Xavier, so he knows all of his secrets and even how he thinks...the list goes on....

yup, all this info's got me wanting to watch the movie again...haven't seen it in a while. definately the best movie of his career. as much as i wish he would've continued the series, he's made so many bad movies since then that i'm kinda glad he didnt ruin it.

It was right after Tom Cruise wakes up with Cameron Diaz, I think. Her cell rings and it's the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" right at the part of the songs where it goes 'Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.'

I caught that the first time I watched it.

But I cheated.

I was pretty high.

Even though she has damn near no dialogue (I think John Lithgow has more lines than her), she spends most of the second half of the film giving Beyoncé, Jamie, and Eddie "nigga please" looks when their characters start doing dumb shit.

but then there was a deleted scene with chaucer's wife in it? and even she was a brunette, making the female speaking role count five.

AND when when cage is in solitary i think, there is a pentagram(-acle?) scrawled on a wall. i think there was more but i always thought someone was trying to create a motif or something. those things are played kinda big too.

Raoul Duke (johnny depp) is reminicing about the acid scene in SF, he's walking throughout the club narrating his thoughts when he walks by himself sitting at a table and says:

"I recall one night in a place called the Matrix. There I was--
Mother of God. There I am, Holy fuck. Uh, clearly I was a victim of the drug explosion... a natural street freak just eating whatever came by."

Who he actually sees is the real Raoul Duke (Hunter Thompson) (who wrote the book and was supposedly about his trip)

It being Hunter S Thompson and all. All he had to do was light the girls cigarette, but he kept doing all this other shit and getting distracted.

I remember reading they had to do a crazy amount of takes just to get him to cooperate.

In the beginning before Tina wakes up from her nightmare, you can see Freddy creeping up behind Tina before he pops up.

When Neo/Mr. Anderson gets the disc from inside the hollowed-out book - the book is Simulacra And Simulation by Jean Baudrillard.
Great book, exactly the book he would have used in that situation.
The Matrix had a lot of great moments like that.

Red Mist reminds his father of the hidden camera inside the teddy bear that he got to surreptitiously keep an eye on the nanny. Whe he pulls up the recording of Big Daddy killing everyone in the warehouse its "Image 004". Images "001-003" are all of the nanny in various stages of undress, as if Red Wind had used it to watch her in her bedroom.

Cracked me up.
