and as otherwise mentioned, i've been a basement-of-the-Alamo fan since youth.

And I'm not one of those assholes who thinks they're hip because they didn't like Star Wars (want a cookie!?). I just always found E.T. too fucking cutesy.

Princess Bride is basically one of the funniest movies ever made in addition to be a great adventure story.

You were born, lived as a baby for three years, and then were put into some kind of hypersleep chamber until you were in your midteens, thus causing you to miss out on your prime The Princess Bride viewing years. In my opinion, everyone should see that movie by the time they are Fred Savage's age in the movie. Luckily for you this movie holds up and will still be enjoyed today. I would say that you cannot go into it as a cynic, but the best part is that even the most cynical of us love this movie, its simply too goodhearted and fun. Enjoy!

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and The Princess Bride are the two 80s kids movies that are actually good movies, not just good nostalgia-fests.

My wife doesn't get it though. She doesn't dislike it, but she doesn't get why I have to watch at least a few minutes every time it's on.

And you know how often that movie is on. It's like there is a Time Bandits channel or something.

It's a great, great movie, though. But it came to symbolize a certain kind of person for me.

Well, actually she just was underwhelmed with it. I rented it for us one night and after we watched it she was just like, "Huh. I just figured it'd be better after hearing it hyped up by so many people.".

I kinda just stared at her for a second. Some where in the distance a dog barked. I just slowly closed my eyes, silently nodded in agreement to myself, and decided then and there that she was fat and ugly.

it was cute but underwhelming to me, considering how many people are obsessed with it.

One of the best movies EVER!!! I knew a person who hadn't seen it in college. Movie night began a few minutes later...The Princess Bride & The Sandlot. Two movies EVERYONE should see and know line by line.

Both are good comedies, but both suffer (in my mind) from their fans swearing up & down that they are unassailably fantastic.

he was pushing himself to never take the easy way out, and then wrote himself into a corner when he killed wesley. he was like 'when wesley died he was dead, i didn't know how/if he was going to come back, he was dead."

i love that anecdote.

edit: i'm extremely paraphrasing there, of course.
