I'm really trying to not be lazy here, but I couldn't get away from some of the similarities.
I love how there are more regular people being shown on their daily struggle to exist, as opposed to every character being connected to the drug trade or violence.
The acting is solid
it does feel very deliberate and almost plodding.
Where the Wire felt like must watch every week, I feel like i could catch this show every 2 weeks.

I'm enjoying it for the most part, but..
SPOILERS
..we didn't need 8 flashbacks for the kind of obvous reveal that the kid was the shooter. as much ground as this show is trying to cover, we shouldn't need filler.
how many episodes are we going to have to wait to find out what the old school kingpin guy is up to
the pacing is getting slightly frustrating. i'm hoping it will all pay off by seasons end.

He hears about a popular athlete getting slain and wants to know how things are being ran since he left for Cuba. What better way to know than to set up shop across the street. He's letting them know who REALLY runs it by his actions like checking the young dude by the truck, taking the dog, etc. It's like Undercover Boss but not so undercover.
