As for me, I feel like the previews show a more snarky bunch of puppets. I might watch for the humor but this ain't my childhood muppet show so I gotta test it before I let my son watch. Why folk always gotta "adult" shyt?
Kermit and Piggy broke up and he has a younger pig now... and there was a lil grown humor in the trailer... I don't know.

I had a couple laughs but really I was cringing through most of it... I'm an old school muppet purist.. that old show was the GOAT.. I might give this one a shot for a while but I'm not really seeing it happen if last night is a sign of things to come.

I actually don't remember the old show much, although I vaguely remember watching it (that and Muppet Babies).
The nonstop cameos and name dropping was just way over the top... I get wanting to make an impression with the first episode, but I hope it doesn't continue this way. The muppets have more than enough personality to carry the show, let the cameos be a special treat here and there.
I do want to continue watching though, let the show breathe a bit. There were some genuinely funny bits, and I was ROLLING at all of Kermit's facial expressions.
Hopefully it finds its stride Parks and Rec style, and really finds its voice once we get past the main Kermit & Piggy arc.

As mentioned, this is not the Muppets of old. A lot of the characters are playing similar roles as the OG show, but remixed for now. The reality TV angle does feel a little forced and overused, so there's one thing. And while the OG Muppets did have an adult slant to it, this one is in no way shape or form meant for the kids, which does worry me

the media push was on point
i was worried it would be dated but the media push totally quelled those fears its a relevant muppets poking fun at current day life while doing their normal insanity/hijinks

They need to lose the "Piggy is an irredeemable bitch" shtick. The "drama" between Kermit/Piggy/Denise doesn't interest me at all. And outside of the "bear" joke, Fozzie, my usual favorite, didn't make me laugh once, saddled with his plotline.
But the occasional bits were funny. Bunsen with the gloves. Zoot. Bobo always makes me laugh. The "Dancing With The Czars" routine.

I think the episode gets Kermit and Miss Piggy all wrong, particularly Kermit. Making him jaded and cynical just doesn't work. The Fozzie stuff was fine, as was the Electric Mayhem. Good to see Tom Bergeron have a good sense of humor about himself. And anything involving Beaker is always funny.
The tone still needs to be tweaked. That's the biggest issues.

>How can you get Kermit wrong? Sigh.
Kermit being with Miss Piggy despite him being an enthusiastic and overall good guy and her being a porcine tornado with, deep down, a good heart is compelling and kind of sweet. With this show, he's just a frog that's attracted to pigs.
I don't know, I think efforts try to "ground" this show in the real world is what is going to hold it back. And prevent it from having any real heart. I'm hoping the show writers can course correct as weeks go on; it always takes TV comedies a little bit to find the right voice.

18. "I'm even fine with him leaving Miss Piggy. That's not even my issue." In response to Reply # 17
My issue is the generally cynical tone he carries.
If he leaves Piggy because their relationship wasn't working, and he's moved on, I'm fine with that, even if it's monumentally uninteresting to me. It's more the shrill Hollywood jaded producer guy shtick. "Send him some nice salami... send him some ordinary salami." It's so nitpicky, but I firmly believe Kermit would care enough to send Tom Bergeron nice salami and would feel genuinely bad that he'd been bumped. Give that line/attitude to someone else. Not Kermit.

And the rebound thing. "I've got a thing for pigs," might have been a throwaway line, but it just didn't feel true to the character at all.

100% co-sign on this. Kermit being bitter while doing the show and dealing with people is just all wrong. And, as I said above, it damages the show's heart.
21. "I'm not quite as mad at Kermit just yet" In response to Reply # 16
I mean, the nice everyman Kermit was pretty much replaced by Walter in the current continuum. He wasn't quite as jaded as he's portrayed in the first ep, but you could kind of see how he could possibly take that path. Who knows, they may delve into that as the show progresses and he may find his kind optimistic heart again. Too early to say. I thought the salami line was funny though
Now, I'm not a fan of Denise or or how he and Piggy are handled. Right now Piggy is waaaaaaaay OTT (again, something that was pointed at in the current movies) and hopefully they get into that (and possibly tone her down a bit). Denise just feels wrong at the moment, and the 'frog who likes pigs' line cheapens Kermit more than his jadedness. I mean, I"ve got it 4:1 that Piggy and Kermit make it back together at some point, but it's going to be a weird watch in the meantime

....it was SO awesomely done... I agree on points about Kermit, making him negative in ANY way isn't a good idea...the Fozzie stuff was weak, but the little bit of Gonzo was gold .....I didn't love the "insensitive Ms Piggy" stuff, like her not knowing Fozzie's name...
hopefully it gets better
