But the fact that Blart was a surprise hit doesn't make this film a bomb if it makes what is expected. It's an r-rated dark comedy.
If we go by the PTP definition of bomb being Domestic Box Office < Production Budget, this film just needs to make around 30 million to not be considered a bomb.

I thought the movie was great. I'm glad Rogen did this movie. McBride could have done it and it might have been a little bit funnier but I think because Rogen is a little more skilled of an actor he was able to bring a sense of desperation to such an oblivious and confident character. In all his other movies he played such an easy to like character and I think this role was great for him.
As a comedy I thought it had some great parts. McBride's cameo/tattoo, the skateboard kid fight, and I thought the last 10 minutes of the movie was damn near perfect. I don't think they could have picked a better song for the chase.
The dramatic parts and just how dark the character of Ronnie is sets this apart from anything Rogen has done as well as any of the recent popular comedies. If that's what you wanted you probably won't like it. If you are a fan of Eastbound and Down you will probably like it. Eastbound and Down goes for more laughs but if you can appreciate something like what Powers does when he finally gets his pitch back you can probably appreciate Ronnie.
We saw Observe and Report yesterday. I thought it was so completely offensive and hateful that I haven't so thoroughly hated a movie this much in a long time! I love black humor and have no problem making fun of anybody and everything if it's done well (Family Guy, Something About Mary, etc) but as soon as Seth's character said he had bi-polar disease both my wife and I were totally offended and I wish I'd walked out of the movie with the other half of the theater that did. I thought Seth and his mother were very real characters with very sad problem and I didn't appreciate their attempt to make it funny let alone reward Seth with a happy ending for killing someone is his delusional state.

Shit was terrible, I may have laughed once or twice but all in all it was pretty bad. And LOL at all the similarities to Paul Blart even tho they are very different movies

I saw it after reading a ton of reviews about how dark it was, surprisingly serious, disturbing...
I thought it was funny as hell. Not nearly as unsettling as people made it out to be. It was kind of like Bad Santa for mall guards (though not quite as good as Bad Santa).

After seeing and hating Zack & Miri, my expectations for this were low. But it had some parts that made me literally LOL. I don't know what's not to like. It's not great or anything but it was pretty damn funny.
