"Rare songs/versions of songs you can't find." Tue Oct-31-23 11:00 AM by Brew
Hoping to see this post get some traction, so that we can share some rarities (I know we do versions of this semi-regularly, with different criteria).
Inspired by my current pursuit of Common's "Ghetto Dreams;" the version with a 3rd Common verse and no Nas.
The Nas version is superior, to be clear. But I remember that the Common-only version was more cohesive, in that he had a third verse that finished the story he was telling in the first two verses.
It used to be online, I think probably YouTube, but I can't find evidence of it anywhere anymore. Like I can't even find evidence that it ever existed (no article about it, no lyrics of that elusive third verse), but I know it did. So I'm hoping someone here has it saved somewhere and can inbox or point me in the right direction.
My issue is all the songs where youtube is the only place the songs seem to exist. I've been looking for the Andrew Broder Modern Hits EPs forever with no luck, aside from youtube links, or MP3 sites that look too scary to try.
---- I check for: Serengeti, Zeroh, Open Mike Eagle, Jeremiah Jae, Moka Only.

I'm usually really good at this. Finding different possible keywords etc. 99% sure I tried "Ghetto Dreams OG" but I must not have. I assume that's what you searched ?

I have all their songs on my old iPod but otherwise if I want to hear them I have to go to YouTube. Fauntleroy and/or No ID mentioned bringing all their EPs to streaming a few years ago but obviously that never happened. Maddening.

I used the free version for a while but I think there are restrictions on playlists (I think you can still create them with the free version but you can't upload them from other devices). I think there a cap of audio bit rate as well if I remember correctly. There are other things as well but I used it for months on the free version without it being too much of an inconvenience.
If you're a reddit user there's an iBroadcast subreddit as well.

Yes! I felt big sad when I had trouble finding this version on streaming. It is damn near my favorite song from Confessions.
Luckily, I have like 90% of my cd/mp3 collection uploaded to horrible ass YouTube music (it was once Google play), so I’m never 100% SOL on stuff like this as long as I had it when it was out.
But it’s crazy how stuff like this has happened and somehow hasn’t been resolved for whatever reason.

That’s the version I remember hearing back in the day. I will never feel bad for illegally downloading everything I could back in the day lol. They can never change those files on me.

Saw it a long time ago on one of those 15cent mp3 sites and was gonna go back and get it. Now I can't find it anywhere. It's the only song I never can find.

There were a slew of remixes when the singles and the album was released. I know there are a number on the re-release, but there are some that I have never heard again. I just can't remember the names of the remix.
It's either a something or something remix and it has a replay of the gap band "outstanding". They use to play it on the radio all the time. For all I know it's a blend but it went perfectly. I can't find it, not even on YouTube.

The original Tonight Show performance. Lots of videos of John Legend playing his cover version out there, but not that one, which is best IMO. Seems like all the others are percussion-less.
