24. "Some of my favorite De La songs are there" In response to Reply # 15
Ring, Ring, Ring, and A Roller Skating Jam named Saturday are two of my all-time favorite songs by De La.
DLSID seems like an album that would be great if you heard it at the time of its release. Since I didn't get around to hearing it until I was out of college, it just didn't hit in the same way.
But the skits seem distracting, at least the sheer number.
6. "The New Workout Plan/School Spirit/Lil Jimmy skits on College Dropout" In response to Reply # 0
Completely worthless. And he had 3 skits in 4 tracks at one point in the album, lol, smh. Album started and finished strong, but the middle had the weakest songs(Get Em High, New Workout Plan, Breathe In, School Spirit) and that late middle section was really wrecked by the skits.

And that’s the lazy version….I didn’t change the order of anything. I just cut out the stuff I didn’t like or that didn’t add anything. I think the above is an indisputable classic.

I liked Common’s verse, and Kweli’s Okayplayer haters line was funny. But the beat was eh, and as an overall song it never did much for me. I don’t hate it or need it cut, but it doesn’t really help that weak stretch of the album all that much to me.

I remember when I first bought that CD and was dying to hear that song cuz everyone who'd heard it in advance was raving about Comm's verse. I was pulling out of the parking lot smoking a blunt with 2 of my friends and they were both immediately hypnotized by and raving about the beat. I was like, oh this is the track everyone's been going on about ? Meh.
It grew on me, and I agree with Stadiq that it's absolutely an essential song on the album (and yes, it was Comm's "comeback" song/verse along with "Days of Our Lives" from Grind Date .. GD came out after Be but "Days of Our Lives" leaked prior to Be coming out) but the beat definitely isn't the all time banger some people make it out to be.
