Lots of us consistently post about what we listened to and liked, often on a weekly basis.
But things can fall through the cracks.
Post here about new albums that you like, that you’ve never seen posted about on here….or maybe you’ve mentioned them in another thread but nobody else replied. With so much music out there, it’s so easy for good stuff to go largely unheard and overlooked.
1. "OC from NC/DJ Flash - The List God Sent Us" In response to Reply # 0
Straightforward soulful boom bap beats, and bars. OC from NC is a good and underrated rapper IMO. I’ve been throwing this one on a lot when I want to hear to some straightforward, classic sounding hip hop.
Roc Marciano beats and a Conway feature on the album so I have no idea how I never heard of this album until recently. Someone in the OKP fantasy hoops league mentioned it a couple weeks back and I’ve been playing it often ever since.
Nerves Baddington - micro/macro. Actually two albums. They're kind of mirror images of each other. They build in opposite directions, and the concepts are tweaked differently on each half.
Lu Chin Chen - NA Meeting. Dope concept album about dealing with opioid addiction. Lu is dope, and the album features appearances by a whole bunch of cats, from Masta Ace to Planet Asia to A.G.
Vic Spencer & Small Pro - Vic has been on a damn good run for the past five years or so. Small Pro laces him with even more heat.
Jermiside & The Expert - The Overview Effect/Rob Cave & Small Pro - Respect Wildlife - Two different albums by OKP/Lessondary vets. Both dope one emcee/one producer endeavors.

Kooley High rapper with a Bandcamp only release, for now.
Grown man content touching on fatherhood, working for a living, that’s both melancholy and hopeful - as reflected by the album titled. Low key, soulful, smooth sound. It was bit of a grower for me compared to his last album, but I really like this. Quality, relatable music that I’m happy to support.

Didn't know this dropped until a few days ago. Been playing it constantly. Mainly because it's basically a Neptunes R&B album. Flwr Chyld didn't shy from the influence on his EP. This debut album is more of the same.

The Last Artful, Dodgr - Hits of Today I love this album, it's a bit poppy sounding but it's great from front to back. I don't see anyone talking about it.
India Shawn - BEFORE WE GO (DEEPER) This is an EP/Deluxe version of her last album but I think it doubled the song count and the new songs are just as good as the ones from the original album.
Sunni Colon - JuJu & The Flowerbug This is just great. Definitely should get more love.

And it still gets referenced in AOTY conversations
Coverage from the key indie/hipster spots Ran the interview circuit Lots of conversation in the nerdier hip hop corners (reddit's HHH)
Probably more attention than Drogas Wave --- I'd say that's a win.
It's hard to gauge what gets slept on now bc the attention cycle moves so quickly. In a way, ongoing AOTY conversations are more relevant than ever because they shine a light on what persists over time.
My problem with this record is it's the definition of one-note --- not necessarily in terms of flow but in energy. So the few first few cuts, I was like --- wow, this could be a solid album *in spite of suspect beats* ... but by track five or six, I was ready to turn it in. I'm not a KRS expert but I feel like this has been his biggest obstacle since day one: turning in a larger project with some tracks that take a breath every once and a while, lol, figuratively and literally.

And agreed on Boldy. Part of it could be that he just dropped an album in the spring - after dropping Dec. 2021, and before that summer 2021…when you’re dropping albums every 4-6 months, it can probably create some listener fatigue. Or they’ll just play the recent album that they liked best, and the the others can get slept on or moved on from quickly.
I agree that Boldy/Craven album is good, but I’m still running Super Tecmo Bo regularly.
25. "good point because" In response to Reply # 23
I haven't checked the spring album lol.
I respect the hustle but you can def overdo it.

His appearance on Evidence’s Unlearning Vol. 1 (2021 album of the year IMO) put me onto him - and am now a fan of him. This album was really good, and went back to some of his back catalogue and enjoyed it:
