Not a bad Friday at all with new full-length releases from:
(on the hip hop side) Denzel Curry Kilo Kish
(and beyond) Ibibio Sound Machine Destroyer
All I'm saying is the first track on that Ibibio is FLAMES and has had me saying "spiritual invisible protection from evil" since it dropped as a single a bit back. It's hard not to think of peak Remain in Light/Speaking in Tongues Talking Heads.
What else is out there? What are folks catching up on? What's on repeat for you right now?
Demae "Life Works Out...Usually" https://demae.bandcamp.com/album/life-works-out-usually - Something that was sitting in my bandcamp wishlist forever. - Somebody in a post suggested this album and I never got around to it until now. Copped the vinyl. Excited to hear this cause what I've heard so far is solid.
Phife Dawg "Forever" - I normally don't care for posthumous LP's, but I've heard too much good stuff from people I respect to pass on it. Plus the lineup/liner notes look solid.
Cypress Hill "Back In Black" - All produced by Black Milk? Done. - Although I'm sad I don't see more Black Milk/Nat Turner production. That series of EP's they had had me thinking they were going to take over the world. I LOVED that stuff. Carrtoons is slowly filling that spot, but that's a post for another day.
Logg "Logg" - OKP dj brainchild has been talking about an album per day on this instagram account. It's highlighted a bunch of boogie disco records I wasn't familiar with. This is one of them.

That's a great haul though.

Familiar name but I don't think I've ever checked her. Will add to the list!

Also new to me. That's awesome that brainchild is doing that.
Glad you checked that Conclave. I've been playing that pretty steadily, it's a great everything record, good for background or for a bit more focus. Every track kills.
On first listen, really really liked this. A few tracks I wasn't wild about but honestly, this is kind of what I hoped for from Cordae's release this year. It's eclectic in sound/styles yet very cohesive and there are more than a few moments where he's really rapping his ass off.
I kind of love that he's taking this underground-ish turn with GAM, Glasper, etc, too. Even some of his musical references: just off first listen, De La Soul/Me Myself and I, Freddie Hubbard, RTJ/Mike. I haven't followed him long enough to understand where he is in his development but even since I started listening closer, I feel like he's personally and musically matured a lot.
