Big day on the indie rock-ish side of things with Big Thief and Spoon both dropping new lps. I fell in love with Big Thief in 2019, have caught up with pretty much everything they've done together and solo, and am pretty excited to have a new album (it's great so far).
A lot of other stuff's out, too:
Shamir - Heterosexual Raveena - Asha's Awakening new Mary J Blige Moonchild - Starfruit
What's everyone checking for? What's dominating your stereo in general this week?

Only got to listen once yesterday but thought the whole album is really, really great --- an 80 minute album is a harder sell for me these days but I'm not minding it at all here. I think every song could be a favorite.
Also, I love the fact that there's a lot of lightness and humor woven into these songs. The "That's my grandma!" bit on "Red Moon"; the unexpected food references and rhymes on "Spud Infinity" ("finish" and "potato knish"). The warm imagery of "Wake Me Up to Drive." A lot of the lyrics are big and there's some major cosmic wrestling going on - references that seem buddhist-inspired, to me - but a lot of its deepest moments are also very musically open and even joyful where on past albums they might have been heavier ... which is sort of zen-ish in itself.
Thanks for the MONDO rec! I need to start working through your recs in the Asian music post, too!

Though I can’t help but wish Battlecat did the whole album, because those are easily my favorites on first listen. Snoop just sounds perfect over Battlecat. And they even got a Nate Dogg hook.
