And I don't stream.
So...nothing. I'm not digging into nothing new...ha ha.

However I am trying to introduce myself to two groups I'd heard
a ton about but never really had access to their music before:

Fishbone
Red Hot Chili Peppers

It's never too late to get into stuff.

but once I did, it was a game changer. It’s far from perfect, but I love it.

You ever try it and not like it? Or opposed to it on principle?

I was the same way.

I gave in and got Spotify and I do like it for the purposes of checking out new music.

But if I like something, I still cop the CD.

I’m actually sad everything has gone the way of streaming, like cars not coming stock with CD players, because the sound quality is so much worse. I can’t believe people are just ok with how much worse the quality is. It’s like night and day.

I agree with you on the CDs and sound quality. If I have it on CD, I’ll listen to that in the car before streaming it.

Still have a ton of albums/mixtapes on my phone that aren’t on streaming too.

Far from perfect so it can’t be the only option, but it is great to be able to pull up any new album to check it out.

Few reasons I don't mess with streaming services.

1. I love supporting artists by buying vinyl and digital downloads.

2. I listen to a lot of unreleased bootleg albums that are not on streaming.

3. I don't want the music I'm listening to to suddenly be gone because of a record label politics and licensing.

4. In college when I bought a CD, I would immediately dub it to tape so I could walk to class with my walkman.
In 96/97 I had The Roots "Illadelph Halflife" and Mint Condition's "Definition Of A Band", and I killed
those tapes for the better part of the school year. I know them back and forth.

When I first got an iPOD and I converted my entire music collection to mp3,
my listening habits changed dramatically. I was initially hyped
to see the stats of how often I played a song, etc, but then those same numbers
made me realize I was only listening to like 20 songs out of thousands.

Basically, I went from really spending time with an album when it was on CD
to just playing a handful of songs I liked. I needed to get back to the idea of spending time with the music.

I was recently on a shoot/road trip with some millennials, and I played
Solange's "A Seat At The Table" LP, and after about 3 songs they asked me,
"Is this a playlist?"
"No, this is just the album."
They didn't realize all these songs were on ONE album.
The conversation with them made me realize they'd listen to
a Solange station, or a playlist built around all of her songs,
but never really thought about just playing her album.

5. I like to have a hand in selecting every piece of music that's in my collection.
I know if it's in my collection, it's there because I read an article, heard something from a documentary, read some liner notes,
saw a recommendation from a message board, whatever. It's there because I put it there. *I* want to be the algorithm.

6. I have enough subscriptions already. And again, I barely have time to listen to the stuff I *DO* buy.

That millennial “playlist” point is wild. I barely use playlists though - I mostly use it for listening to albums, so my habits haven’t changed too much.

#5 is an interesting point. I definitely feel that.

I know Elucid is well respected on this board so it goes without saying it’s a banger
But this pairing w Von is sublime

Mark Ronson produced. When I first read him talking about it, it sounded like he was trying to bring back some of that Soulquarians/Electric Lady sound -- I think he might have even enlisted Pino and Quest? But that was at least 2, maybe 3 years ago. Listening now and that sound isn't really coming through -- it's a bit mixed so far, tbh, but I think it might take some time to dig into.

I was actually looking forward to her until Mark Ronson came aboard. the stuff she did with Peter Cottontale and Nico Segal was excellent and soulful. Mark pretty much erased any soul she had lurking. the best song she got on here has Kaytranada wrote all over it. ?uest and Pino was totally wasted

In response to Reply # 0

Common's sounded fine, not mad at all, but didnt hit the rewind button on anything.

AZ's was good, nice production. A few guests and choruses I wasnt feeling, but good album overall.

Only listening to Keem cuz of the Kendrick connection, but so far the production is kinda stellar. Some of his lyrics are dumb and crass, not too into that, but as far as more mainstream stuff goes I can enjoy this one.
