"RIP Zumbi from Zion I" Sat Aug-14-21 01:49 AM by mrhood75
Kinda floored here. He was a good dude and a Bay Area icon.
Very charismatic, knowledable, and spiritual person. Saw him countless times love. I always loved it that he used to perform rocking his socks (no shoes), because the stage was his home and holy place.
Interviewed him a couple of times, last time was a little over a decade ago. After the interview chopped it up about D-Nice’s True Hip-Hop Stories and I put him up on Trouble Funk.

In the early 2000s, imo the west coast was dominating on the independent hip hop scene… Zion I, Blackalicious, People Under The Stairs were big factors of that..
Rip Zumbi and much respect to Amp Live who is a beast on the production side..

...only came out Sunday night. Before that, the official news was that Zumbi died at a local hospital for "unknown" reasons.
I'll just note that I know a lot of people that knew Zumnbi personally, and everyone I communicated with listed the same cause, and no one mentioned a possible homicide. And none of the people I talked to would downplay a possible homicide if they knew about it.
As mentioned above, details right now are really sketchy. We're probably going to have to wait and see.

...Mind Over Matter is a classic in my book ..such talent & originality ..i heard they were about to do a 20yr anniversary celebration tour for MOV ..hopefully whatever went down at the hospital comes to light, because the hospitals story is missing some key parts ..sounds like a cover up

Still not incredibly clear, but friends and family are confirming that he was at Alta Bates being treated for COVID.
Still scant details about the "incident" itself, other than both the hospital and other patients called the police. And that it involved the hospital's security.
