"New Release Friday - 2020-07-17"

Pretty good day from what I can see. Top of my list:
Lianne La Havas
Blu & Exile - Miles
Joey Bada$$ - the light (ep)
Oddisee - Odd Cure (had no idea this was coming out)

Lots of other stuff out there too - I'm guessing Lianne will dominate today because I've been waiting on it since the Bittersweet single dropped but this is going to be another packed weekend of listening.

What's everyone looking for?

Blu & Exile, Oddisee, Joey Bada$$, those two Khaled/Drake tracks.

Excited.

And thought, "Huh, hopefully a new album drops".
So consider me pleasantly surprised.

He's easily one of my favorites these days but his last album or two started to feel a little less inspired to me - solid lyrically but a bit monotonous in overall feel and production. Haven't listened to this yet but I'm hoping he switched it up just a bit.

That album was my introduction.
But the combo The Beauty In All and Tangible Dream woke up all the way up!
I didn't think anyone was rapping better than him
and his production was on point.
The Good Fight, Alwasta and Iceberg I feel gave me what I was exactly looking for which in turn kinda bored me.
I almost want to see a departure record from him.

My intro/journey was the same and you totally summed this up right for me:

>The Good Fight, Alwasta and Iceberg I feel gave me what I was
>exactly looking for which in turn kinda bored me.
>I almost want to see a departure record from him.

Gave a quick listen to the new one a bit ago - not a radical departure but definitely some nice change-ups. It's sort of covid themed with some really sweet short convos with his family. Didn't listen super close but the first musical track was definitely a standout for me - different vibe on the percussion.

Looking forward to listening closer.

Dig this joint.
Can't find out any info on whether this
is going to be a full project.
I was a fan of Wayne Snow's '17 LP Freedom TV.
Had a very big Steve Spacek vibe to it.

They are now 3 for 3. 4 for 4 if you include the album of outtakes they released a couple of years ago. I'm glad they decided to make this a double album because they are one of the best duos in modern hip hop and don't record together that often. 1 hour and 41 minutes and it's great from front to back, they still have amazing chemistry. Favorite tracks right now are "Miles", "The End", "You Ain't Never Been Blue", "Bright As Stars" and "All The Blues". Looking forward to listening to this one more.

Can't wait to listen later.

Is this all new? I thought I'd read somewhere that some of these were cuts from around BTH but I might have misunderstood.

New Lupe....who's dropping an EP at the end of the month. Kyle having a song with Raphael Saddiq is dope, Aluna (of AlunaGeorge) is doing an album with Jade Kingdom and Princess Nokia which should be good for late summer.

My favorite is an instrumental joint by a producer that has done some work with Common, Kanye and John Legend called The Twilite Tone. He's dropping an album on Stones Throw in the fall.

This is "Do It Properly"

I guess this record is part of a larger audio-visual project:

https://www.mixing-colours.com/

And there will be another EP related to the project later this summer.

I gave a listen to the full album this morning while working and really enjoyed it. Largely very quiet, sparse, piano and synth-driven work -- some of it quite lovely. Pairs nicely with a lot of other quieter recent projects I've been enjoying the last month or two: the Mehldau album; Cory Wong's Meditations; John Carroll Kirby's recent records all come to mind. Though John Carroll Kirby's probably the closest in its overall feel and approach.

Definitely worth spending some time with - I plan to return to it again very soon.
