"New Release Friday - 2020-06-19"

First big release week in a little bit (from what I can see/remember, lol). Sidenote: Bandcamp is giving their share of sales today to the NAACP legal defense fund -- so if you're buying, think about buying there. And since a number of artists are currently giving their sales to good causes (see: Esperanza Spalding/Fred Hersch ep), 20 bucks could suddenly go a long way.

What's everyone checking for?

On the radar for this week:

Sault - Untitled (black is)

Skyzoo - Milestones EP

younge/shaheed muhammad - jazz is dead 2 (roy ayers)

teyana taylor - the album

pheoebe bridgers - punisher

braids - shadow offering

brad mehldau - suite: April 2020

Singles/loosies:
a.paak - lockdown

angel olsen - new love cassette (mark ronson remix)

khruangbin - pelota

dj shadow/de la - rocket fuel remixes

even better than the bluest note, same jazzy vibe but all focused on fatherhood. this guy is having a year.

listening to sault now. get a bit of albums i wanna get through. i think bep is the only one you didnt mention, dont have high hopes for it though. i think its some latin dance vibe, hopefully im wrong.

I think the first record I listened to from him was Peddler Themes - that was just in 2017. He didn't blow me away right away but I kept going back, checking out earlier stuff, keeping up with the new releases. In just those few years he's easily moved into one of my absolute favorites doing it right now. His catalog is exceptional, his lyricism is flawless, and he's got a great ear for production.

Can't wait to listen to this one in full.

Standout for me is Teyana Taylor's album. Both her and Kehlani's albums evoke that 90s sound without being corny with it.

John Legend's album is cool, the single with the same sample as Dre's The Next Episode (called "Actions") has been one of my favorite songs this year.

Wale's new EP goes too. Dude seems to be close to a mental breakdown or breakthrough.....and I'm not sure which.
