"Griselda - WWCD"

Out there.

01. Marchello (Raekwon The Chef Intro)
02. Chef Dreds
03. Moselle
04. Cruiser Weight Coke
05. Freddie HotSpot
06. DR BIRDS
07. The Old Groove feat. Novel
08. Scotties
09. Kennedy feat. Tiona Deniece
10. City On The Map feat. 50 Cent
11. May Store feat. Keisha Plum
12. Lowery (AA Rashid Outro)
13. Bang (Remix) feat. Eminem

Great album. On production, Daringer and Beat Butcha are reminiscent of Evil Dee and Mr. Walt IMO. Westside stepped his skills up. Conway great as always but Benny... Goddamn.

First off, the album is dope....even if it's just more of what we've gotten from the camp this year. I guess you could make a better album out of their projects and stitched some songs together...but whatever.

My only disappointment is me thinking that some Just Blaze would be on here, but that's my fault...and for a first album with 3 people it's WAY TOO SHORT on songs, but I'm prolly in the minority on that.

As for the album, it's funny because some stuff just don't make the most sense...like why is the tracklist so short but the Gunn adlib skit makes it?

Why is Keisha Plum doing poetry about killing people?

Why is Raekwon doing the same intro he did on Gunn's project from 2 months ago?

There's a song with Novel (which I'm glad to see because he's always been dope)....but it's not really a song with Novel. Novel's part is a completely separate track attached to a different song that no one else rapped to.

I also like that it sound like there's no song structure. Like sometimes you can hear that a song was just Hall & Nash....but there's a Benny verse on it anyway lol.

Not bad things at all, just kinda odd, I just keep a running playlist of Griselda and this will just add to the heat when I'm in that zone. I think I'd be upset if I bought this album....because we got way more in the separate projects.

Yes, what is the damn hold up on them Just Blaze tracks?!! Is it a royalty split disagreement, jammed up in record contracts, or what? Been waiting for those songs ever since they posted session vids on IG from way back

First off...Westside is not dope...his voice is annoying as fuck and the funny thing is, he makes his voice sound like that.

Conway is cool but he has zero versatility...I’ve heard one verse from him so I’ve heard them all.

Benny is clearly the best one in the crew and has a legit lane but he needs to release an official project and vary up his topics and production if he wants to make it for longer.

I give them another half of a year before no one is checking for them outside of people who think you still need to talk about selling and killing to be dope.

I don’t need them to change anything up there.

Benny is one of the best out there and Conway is really good too. I’m good with both of them doing what they do.

Could do with only very small doses of WestSide Gunn though.

I’m not saying they need to completely change up but they do need to be a bit less repetitive.

And Gunn is absolutely horrible. His voice, his dumb ass sound effects, the same gun sound every fucking song.

I’m just saying that they’re already getting old to me.

1) How much attention does that Griselda crew get locally? Are they local celebs or are they still slept on?

2) What the situation between Griselda and Mach Hommy and Camouflage Monk? Is there still beef or was that settled? Also, what caused the initial beef to begin with? To be fair, it could be beef that was only between Westside Gunn and the Mach and/or Monk and not the whole crew as he's the only one I heard speak ill of them.

1) They get a fair bit of attention but to me it seems like a similar level of attention to anywhere else. There's pride there, but I'm not sure how hard people rock with them outside of hip hop heads.

2) Lol. I have no idea, Buffalo is a small city, but we haven't traveled anywhere near the same circles for 20+ years. What I know about that comes from twitter. Last I heard he and Mach don't work together anymore, not sure exactly what level of "beef" that is.

He produced everything along side Daringer.
Not enough disparity among the beats.
I thought since this was a group LP we would get WSG in exec producer role.
I was expecting this to have varied production from all the producers
they’ve created with up to this point.

Daringer
Pete Rock
Preem
Just Blaze
Alchemist
Big Ghost Ltd
Dj Muggs
Madlib
Green Lantern
Animoss
38 Spesh
Where is Sadhu Gold?

WSG says Daringer IS Griselda so I guess that’s why he did all the beats.
Kind of sounds like cut & paste job.
Benny is a monster, he’s emcee of the year.
I swear he puts out a new verse that’s better than the last every week.
Conway wrecks Chef Dreds.

So what’s the shady deal like?
Conway & WSG each have to do a solo LP? I hope not.
I hope they’re done with Shady, don’t need the major distribution imo.
I doubt this sells more physicals than what they normally sell or if it does...
it’ll be a lower price point - so maybe the numbers would even out considering their limited run vinyls are usually pricey and sell out quickly.

If gotta do solos, I need Conway to get an exec producer.
Someone to help him select different sounding beats.
He can rhyme on anything, doesn’t always have to be the DARKEST sounding beats the producer has. Pete Rock always gives him something brighter in tone counter act his deep voice, chefs kiss when they work together.

I think he can do a couple songs on his album that would remind us of What’s Beef, You’re Nobody Til Somebody Kills You, or I Gotta Story to Tell.
Some story joints, some straight spitting joints... I think he should look at LAD for inspiration and make an album. He can hold down an album by himself if he has people around him to help him create it, he can come up with the rhymes, he can find the right words to write the songs, I have faith in that.
His albums usually end up sounding like this Griselda group LP, too similar, too brooding. I’m not saying he had to make fuxking Popping Tags or Big Pimpin’ and make something poppy... but he should get a couple joints like the Amherst Station series.
The tone of those beats would sound lovely with the tone of his voice.

I know Benny talking Tana Talk 4 next.
Call it something else and make it another classic.

HWH7 is a top 3 WSG project, along with Benoit and Fly God.

They aren’t going anywhere and This album is cool but it’s more of the same.
I was expecting a lot more I gotta be honest.

A google search turned up lots of info about his drum kits. I’m just guessing, but he probably was responsible for the drums on here which on some songs seem noticeably different from what Daringer normally does?

I mean...I can see wanting Alchemist, Pete, etc. and a bit more variety. I’d be cool with that too. But as it is, the production is really good IMO. Daringer is dope and he IS Griselda so I’m good with him getting the work for the album that’s on Shady.

then Daringer samples and arranges what he provides.

If you want the variety of producers/production griselda is known for, you gotta get the non-shady stuff.

As the last Conway release was the setup for it....and the original Bang was Conway's single and they just added a Benny verse to it.

I'm not sure if Benny is even a part of the Shady deal...as it seems like it was just Conway & WSG.

The next album should be Hall N Nash....and then solos IMO

... rhymes are on point. Benny, my god, is a beast. I guess I miss the heavy samples - this joint seems more like piano loop and synth heavy. Miss the camo Munk, sadhugold and alchemist beats that are on the other projects.

Pretty much more of the same compared to their prior material. I think it's the beats that made me sour on this on my initial listens.

To make this response as positive as I can, I hope that Westside Gunn will serve as Executive Producer for Benny's next solo album, assuming he's along for the ride with this Shady Records deal. For all of his short comings as a rapper, the man has an ear for stellar beats. Hopefully he can impart that upon Benny's next project.

I understand wanting to keep it super-in-house-Griselda only, but I'd like this more if there were some other producers involved (Alchemist especially).

For me it's only Flygod and Supreme Blientele. Maybe Tana Talk 3 or an early Hitler Wears Hermes tape.

And if we're counting Hommy's Griselda affiliated releases, H.B.O.

I'm also a pretty big fan of Don't Get Scared Now and Hall & Nash.

Not saying this is bad by any stretch. Enjoy it quite a bit.

it's borderline sad that none of his solo released have come close to matching how good Reject 2 is. I'm somewhat worried his proper Shady solo album will be quite bland. Hopefully he'll put some level of attention and care into that release that's been missing from what feels like throwaway stuff he's done in recent years.

If so, I'll pose this question in case ?uest is looking; where you the one to broker the Griselda folks getting aired? Was it Black Thought? Or is Fallon that much of a 'head to be cool with them talking about Virgil writing BRICK on their respective bricks?
