i mean hes put out some albums and EPs via soundcloud, none of which i consider "great" :

warmest winter ever
warmest winter II
coldest summer ever (this is prob the closest to being "great" of this list)
dojo
Farewell
dying from crying (youtube EP)
and his 3 recent soundcloud songs that im calling the "storm averted EP"

and of course the coke80 stuff

but i thought the dying from crying songs were gonna turn into his official full length debut album and then....nothing

this stuff is all pubic from his soundcloud or youtube or whatever, so i think im good to just post here.

im not including anything from Cocaine 80s, because those 4 EPs (with No I.D.) are basically flawless and you (everyone) should just go ahead and get that shit in your library, stat.

he also has a grip of features - again, not included. I stuck to my personal standout solo tracks he's put out over the years.

hes got a TON of material, but i kept this trim at 21 tracks (and many of them are quite short, but SOOO good.)

LMK (anyone) what you think! I bump this shit all the time, but hes like the best kept secret man.

Teflon Don is the album I believe to be his best, but it's a 3.75-4 out of 5, which I consider to be very good but not great.

maybe not a classic but deltron 3030 is really close to one if not. at minimum its great.

busta is on the line, i think the level of his talent and commercial appeal outshines the quality of his albums. he at minimum has a few really good albums. i wouldnt really argue that any of them are great but i could see some people saying they are.

> Del

You don't hold "I Wish My Brother George Was Here" or "No Need For Alarm" in high esteem?

The former puts that LenchMobXBoogiemen sound down and introduces a singular and effortlessly fresh talent. It's basically the sonic bookend to Death Certificate

The latter (along with 93 til Infinity) ushered in the classic Hiero sound and flows, putting rhyme patterns in the forefront.

maybe I'm biased because of region, but I consider those to be great to classic.

He has classic verses but hasn't put together a great project. Tical is probably his best and for as good as it is, it could have been his classic if the RZA flood hadn't happened.

Still one of my favorite MC's tho.

I love it, and I don't argue with anyone deeming it a classic, but I always wanted more from him. Maybe they were unrealistic expectations, but I thought he would be The ONE.. like on some King of NY/God of Rap shit.

Method Man,

Flying Lotus,

People Under the Stairs

Elzhi, although I really liked Elmatic and Lead Poison

it's a bummer, too. I always thought Luda was easily one of the most talented lyricists/performers out there -- a single verse of his often boasts so much attention to structure and wordplay + his charisma... man, he's hard to beat. But I don't think he ever found a way to channel that energy from funny/clever showman Luda to something that can make a more memorable/diverse set of songs, let alone the right production. I always thought it would be interesting to hear him over a short, tight set of more boom-bap shit...

They both had obvious talent, but getting that talent recorded (throughout an album in Luda's case) was difficult.

As quality as The Roots' albums are, I don't think they ever fully distilled their live shows into one of their albums. And the same for Luda.

Just thinking now, a lot of the legendary projects came from great MC's paired with great producers (duh). But when the MC's left to find their sound on their own, their work seemed to suffer.

The legends who bounced around from producer to producer had similar problems. Nas, early Jay, later Rakim, later Eminem, later KRS, and Pac suffered from the consistency issue. That may be a big reason for the lack of consistency in quality, album to album.

There are songs of his that I really like (Never Catch Me, More, Zodiac Shit). To me he has one great song an album with the rest not quite working for me.

His sound is distinctive and truly unique which are rare qualities in a musician's work.

But I haven't really peeped the EDM scene in quite some time so some of the subtlties of his music are lost to me.

but i would need to stretch what a great album is. i think hes at the same level as some others being mentioned here.

i think its more that the talent and potential that murs has verse how good his albums have been is out of wack. he should have a few classic albums with how good he is. to me he is my favorite rapper that hasnt made a favorite level album.

if someone asked me to recommend a murs album i might be inclined to make a playlist instead.

In response to Reply # 61

And why I’ll never get rid of the physical albums I own, and why I’ll always keep a flash drive as backup of the hordes of 00’s albums that I “acquired”(including The Preface). I’m good with dealing with a few ads on YouTube for new albums I want to check out, and paying money for the new albums and artists that I like enough to pay for.

Spotify’s gonna need to have EVERYTHING on there for me to pay them every month.

It's just a piece of the pie (happy thanksgiving) but it's worth it for me so I can hear albums I may not buy otherwise and decide if I like it enough to have a physical copy.

But otherwise I'm with you. I don't trust it at all lol. I keep all my CDs, and even burned them all to my old iPod Classic for convenience. So if something goes off Spotify for some stupid reason (like The Preface) I can access it. This also applies to De La Soul and JayZ, among others.

Carter I is a great southern album with Mannie Fresh, the reintroduction of adult Wayne.

Carter II is a great look at someone who was now comfortable with their mutant capabilities and said I’m about to have FUN with this shit.

Carter III is a classic and it’s my least favorite of the three.
He was the biggest rapper in the world, everyone was waiting for the album and he delivered a mainstream rap masterpiece.
It’s got something for everyone on it.
He was at peak of his powers and gave listeners smash after smash.
The cop car song - great pop song writing for a rap record.
Mr Carter - not just a co-sign but essentially a passing of the torch from Jay-Z.
Creative & imaginative songs we would give credit to someone like DOOM with Dr Carter record with Swizz and Phone Home.
Lollipop - club record that introduced his next phase of rock & singing with auto tune, before he went stupid with it.
Got Money - another classic club record with T-Pain.
Haven’t even mentioned A Milli yet which spawned a million freestyles and is the template for records on albums where rappers are just allowed to blackout and the song can be a single IE backseat freestyle.
Comfortable with babyface is the perfect “girl joint” single.
Tie My Hands is his home town of Nola Katrina record.
Let the Beat Build is classic Kanye.

The album solid 500,000 copies first day. A Million first week.
First album to sell a Million first week in 3 years.
This after multiple delays from bootlegging, essentially redid the album, was a lot of Kanye records on the original if I remember correctly.

Something like 6 singles. He was in the spotlight and delivered a great mainstream album.

Nominated for Grammy album of the year, won Grammy Rap album of the year.
