"PSA: Magdelene by FKA Twigs is album of the year. "
Nothing is out of place on the piece. The influences are clear but don't overwhelm the songs. Itsjust a perfect blend of digital sounds and human emotions. Striking albu..

It's really really good. Absolutely gorgeous, every track is memorable. I know little about her discography aside from a few tracks but I am about to take a deep dive on the strength of this lp alone - here's to hoping this ToriAmosKateBushBjorkSufjan(?) hybrid that is all over this record makes an appearance somewhere in her past work, too.
i have never listened to her, the name is familiar. i keep seeing her previous album listed as one of the best of the decades so i was excited. not my type of music. dont feel right even rating it.

She has never released any bad project IMO - I really like all her work. I think this is great even though I still think the M3LL155X EP is probably her best project overall. The progression of her sound on this is really great - she's always been kind of like a spiritual daughter of bjork/aalyiah (combined) to me, but her she leans farther into the bjork-ish tendencies, leaving the R&B cadences behind mostly - all while remaining uniquely her (I would never say she's an imitator). Also, her vocals have gotten significantly better. Cellophane is really something else and Fallen Alien may be my song of the year.

I'm only a casual Twigs listener. I own a copy of LP1 and liked it well enough (emphasis on 'like', not love) but was never blown away by her music like I wanted to be.
This new one is just sleepy. The Kate Bush influence is almost overwhelming--this is where I will disagree with the OP--to the point that I just want to turn this off and listen to Hounds of Love instead.
I feel bad because Twigs is very much an artist and the acclaim this release has gotten has been astronomical but to my ears ...it is just a cure for insomnia at this point in time.

toe tappin' grooves and something that approximates a melody? Because there's zero of that here. Is all that just a thing of the past that is optional in music now?
