The Gangstarr conversation, including the new album and going back through the catalogue made me think of scratching. “Next Time” is one of my favorite scratches on a record ever. The perfect vocal sample, the cuts and where it’s placed on the song is just amazing. I started thinking about my favorite scratching moments and came up with the following:
- DJ Shadow “The Numbers Song” - Outkast “BOB” - Pete and CL “I Get Physical” and “In The Flesh” - Dr Octagon “Bear Witness” - Tribe “We Can Get Down” - EPMD “So Watcha Sayin” - Queen Latifah “Latifah’s Had It Up To Here”

on this very topic a few weeks ago. It's one of my very few favorite new podcasts ("Building Better DJs"), and I'm not even a DJ. It's cool hearing veterans talk about what scratches got them hyped as newbies. It was this episode that had me looking up Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" video on YouTube. I've been known the very popular song but I didn't realize how big it was back in the day. Surprised no one mentioned it here.
