"Talk to me about Travis Scott"

For context, I had not ever heard a song of his, before today. After seeing the trailer a couple times, I decided to watch his Netflix documentary. I don’t know whether or not his music will ultimately be for me, but I did come away with a pretty positive feeling about him, in general. I plan to listen to “Astroworld”, tomorrow morning at the gym. Any fans? Critics?

That he'd been sort of apathetic about Travis Scott until he decided for whatever reason to watch the Netflix doc, at which point he became a fan of his at least as a story and a human.

Said he listened to more of his music thereafter and came away feeling better about it but still not blown away. So take that for what it's worth.

to his fans...he really means a lot. Like, A LOT. After one listen to Astroworld, I wasn't blown away, but will definitely be giving it some more spins.

• started out as an unrepentant ye, cudi, and several others biter and deserved all the criticism he received at the time
• eventually found his own lane
• his albums became increasingly cohesive as he got better being a producer and settled into an identifiable travis scott sound
• mostly more vibe than content but there is a lot of detail in the beats he vocalizes over
• "90210" is a masterpiece
• /rodeo/, /birds in the trap sing mcknight/, and /astroworld/ are all worth a listen
• /astroworld/ in particular has his best vocal performances because former ye collaborator cyhi is writing with him
• he probably pioneered the beat switch trend
• do not under any circumstances listen to /huncho jack, jack huncho/

nothing new under the sun. what i have observed is that beat switches became trendy after /birds/ was released. it's almost assumed that a big rap album will have at least one track with a beat switch in the middle or towards the end and that wasn't the case 3-4 years ago
