"What happened to Hi-Tek? Did he leave the Soul Council?"

I admit I'm not super deep into hip-hop scene like I was 15-20 years ago, but I feel like I haven't heard about Hi-Tek in a minute.

Does anyone know what he's up to these days? Any major projects he's produced?

A Wiki entry notes: "In November 2015, producer 9th Wonder announced Hi-Tek as the newest member of The Soul Council - the production staff of his record label It's A Wonderful World Music Group."

I don't see his production credits on recent work by Rapsody, who is a 9th Wonder artist...

I only know of this: Murs & 9th & Soul Council -The Iliad is Dead & The Odyssey is Over
https://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=5&topic_id=3016883&mesg_id=3016883&listing_type=search
It's interesting that the YouTube link in the abovementioned thread notes that the Soul Council is a "collective of 9th Wonder, Khrysis, Nottz, Eric G, AMP, Kash and E. Jones."

And the Council's official Twitter also does not mention Hi-Tek: https://twitter.com/soul_council

I'm not trying to be messy; I'm genuinely curious.

He's active on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HiTek

He's active on IG with nearly 84K followers: https://www.instagram.com/hitek/

It's interesting that the current link in his IG bio is an iTunes URL for his first album, Hi-Teknology. No new music.

Discogs is not always up-to-date but the site gives the impression that his last major project was the 2010 Reflection Eternal album? Wow.
https://www.discogs.com/artist/39909-Hi-Tek

I can't believe OKP doesn't have more info? I feel like half of what OKP was listening to in the late 1990s/early 2000s featured Hi-Tek's production. C'mon...

During this quarantine I've been looking up random producer discographies and sometimes people just...stop? aren't hot anymore? want to sit down and be a family man? It could be anything. He looks healthy and happy, that's all we as fans can ask for yea?

Yes, he seems to be doing okay and I’m okay with him just chillin. I’m just curious why he doesn’t seem to be producing, even if the reason is simple, e.g. other interests, lack of inspiration, legal issues.

He doesn’t ow anyone an explanation, of course.

>he’s probably never gotta work again.

This made me do a little research. "Come Down" was featured in:
- Madden NFL 17
- A Google Home Max commercial: https://youtu.be/LV6b90hBhhc (See 0.19 mark)
- HBO's Insecure Season 2 trailer (not the soundtrack)

Nice.

In response to Reply # 0

Cause of this post, I remember seeing a used copy of Hi-Tek's second album "Hi-Teknology 2: The Chip" at a local record store, decided to buy it and peep it out and it reminded me why I never bought this album.

I'm sure I never listened to this album all the way thru before, but maybe I heard a few songs or maybe I did a quick skim of it when it first released, either way, it was a let down compared to the first album which I consider a classic; this one seems like he wanted to get that commercial appeal when he left Rawkus.

The music isn't bad, neither is the features, him rapping on it isn't a good look (I guess he wanted to be like Pete Rock & J-Dilla, and do the rapping producer thing too), it's just feels watered-down or not as street as I thought it was going to be.

At least I got the deluxe edition with the three bonus tracks and a bonus dvd (I might watch the dvd sometime next week); I know I'm late to hearing this album, but at least I did, now I see why a few rappers probably stop wanting him for production around this time though.

This is concerning. I hope they settled this. I don't know what type of agreement they had, if any, but this may have caused some reputation issues...
