"Best kiddie/teen rapper? Shyheim? Chi Ali? A+?"

I’m procrastinating...

I bought a cheap early Shyheim CD a few weeks ago when I was in Miami, and it made me wonder....

Who was the best kiddie or teen rapper? Who actually showed promise and wasn’t just a "cute" kid rapping?

Shyheim? A+? Chi Ali? Special Ed? Kris Kross (LOL.)
Probably not Lil Zane, Lil’ Wayne, Lil Bow Wow or Lil Romeo...

Shyheim stands out to me because of his Wu-Tang affiliation. AZ was rapping with A+ and Prodigy of Mobb Deep.

Remember A+Z? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1IFSOuI_qw

I know LL Cool J, Rakim and many others entered the game when they were teenagers, but I’m more interested in the rappers that were clearly teens. Rakim could have passed for a 20-something when Paid in Full came out.

*I haven't listened to the Shyheim CD yet...*

That’s to be expected, I think. But who was best in terms of delivery, etc.? Oh, and I’m sure at least some of them wrote a little bit. At least that’s my hope....

Out of them, I think Illegal was the best. And out of the duo, Jamal seemed to have the most promise, although Malik killed his verse on Doggystyle.

Thank you. As an early 1990s East Coast hip-hop head, I don't want to admit that I had never heard of them until this post. I'll check out "The Aftermath" soon.

ETA: Whoa... I just peeped the album production credits. Pete Rock? Marley Marl? Primo? The Beatnuts? Sheeit...

It's a couple years old but still interesting.

Bow Wow and the Curse of the Child Rapper
Bow Wow recently became the butt of jokes for posting a bogus private jet pic, but Shad Moss is doing just fine. Other rappers who became teen superstars haven’t been so lucky.

Really wish he had a chance to work with Jay-Z back inna day

Shy had a very specific vibe/energy that's never been recaptured in music, at that age.
