My favourite hip hop album so far this year, and it ain't close.
Damu's beats are so goddamn layered, it's almost pete rock in '92/bomb squad levels - the flip of give up the goods/esther phillips on share the love and various shit on the title track is mindblowing.
Blu goes in too... Grey Heaven an early highlight. Posse cut is ill too.

PICTURE THIS --- Waiting for my train into Center City Philly (from Mt Airy .. if ya'll know) this morning and I open my phone and click on the Lesson badge (yeah I got that shit badged and bookmarked) - read this post... open up spotify.
The 1/2 hour commute through North Philly painted the perfect hazy ass summer city sweltering backdrop to this GEM of a hip-hop album.
Blu is straight fire but GOT DAYM the beats and scratching and layered production make this THEE album of the year (fuck it, it's august already).. for me.

I'm checking all of Damu's releases now.... Can't believe what I have been missing. I've heard a few things from him over the years, but haven't really turned and focused. Gonna be a nice weekend.
I enjoyed Blu's record with Oh No earlier this year but it didn't hold a whole lot of replay value overall (concept/theme records are tricky like that). But Blu is on fire here and this will be on repeat for a while, for sure.
And the production!??!?!? Have I been sleeping on Damu that much?? Always enjoyable but this is another level...

And say thanks for recommending vignettes - that is a really, really special album. Currently working my way through all of his other stuff, too, but that is absolutely another level - have had a few long drives for less-than-fun reasons recently, that's made them a thousand times easier.

^^ This. The Oh No joint was really good, but it was the type of theme album that loses replay value. I prefer Blu to just spit.

Made my day and like that it (I think??) just dropped out of the blue.
Seems like I'm a *slightly* different Blu fan than most on here (Her Fav Color is prob my fav release of his), but this is phenomenal.
I hope this gets the attention it deserves. Blu is under-appreciated.
** Something impressive about Blu is that you could ask 100 fans his top 3 albums and probably get 50-100 different answers. I get frustrated sometimes at the sound quality of his releases, but we should appreciate this man.
