that piano/keyboard section at the end of Yada Yada played for much longer.
Pretty cool of Paak to follow up from Oxnard so quickly with these tracks. The first half of this feels more cohesive than the second half to me, but that's just based from the first listen. Very solid effort here.

these tracks were recorded the same time as the tracks for Oxnard were recorded, correct? Should be interesting to see going forward how much Dr. Dre will be involved with future Paak projects since I'm assuming the reaction between this and Oxnard are like night and day.

I'm old but I can see this song being a hit. Album is good start to finish. Anderson is the real deal. Somehow this album makes me appreciate Oxnard more, I think some of the backlash was it just being different from what people were expecting.

At least as of right now, very early on, I agree with folks who said Malibu is better. But this is damn good and definitely better than Oxnard. Although I'd maybe argue that the highs ("Anywhere," for example) are higher on Oxnard. Ventura just sounds more consistent and more his lane.
Edit: they did a really nice job w/the Nate Dogg song. Wonder where he got the vocals ! Fredwreck !!!!

We play this so much in the car(s), the 10 year old who really doesn't groove with our music, loves it and knows the lyrics..
The 1 1/2 y.o. loves the music we play.. Well.. the other day, we both coulda swore we heard her say "Oh daaamn.." just like Jazmine Sullivan on Good Heels..when there was no music even playing. LOL
Yes, it's not the clean version.

at least based on amount of replay. And I know it's heresy but I think I *might* say it's my favorite Paak album. Everything is on point but arrangements/production/songwriting especially, and it feels like a real album in terms of sequencing and coherence across songs. The only real weak spots for me are Chosen Ones (and mainly the first half, and mainly bc it feels very different from everything else on the album) and the closing track (basically the same reasons). It feels like his best impulses are refined here and his worst tendencies (which aren't many!) are suppressed and the results really sparkle.
The great thing is I expect him to keep putting out great music for years to come. I have a feeling I will still be listening to him 20 years from now.

and I like his lyrics more and more.... he knows how to say a lot with little effort. Not comparing them AT ALL - but phonte is another who does that with ease
