I'm still pissed the he went out on a sour note, Phase Two was terrible in my opinion, Phase One was great, loved it, but when he decided to release Phase Two, I thought it was going to be just as good, nope that album had me curious as to why he would release basically the throwaways from the same sessions, then the unthinkable happened, he passed away, that shit had me so mad at myself for really speaking out on how terrible this album was.
Did it have some gems on it, of course but the majority of this album sucked, when it dropped, I said I'll just wait for the next album, he will make some even better jams than what was on Phase One, damn I was wrong, I never would've thought that would be his last album of newly recorded material.
The last artist who I didn't care for their recent album then died right afterwards was J-Dilla, no I didn't care for "Donuts", I thought it was just Stones Throw cashing in on him signing with them and they had to get something out to the fans, I remember telling people, this is just mediocre material, he will go back to the boom-bap, loud snare, heavy kicks, type material on his next album, didn't think he would pass away a few days later.
While we did get "The Shining" I felt that album was incomplete, and the official version of "Jay Loves Japan" would never be release, and the MCA album did get released mad years later, I really wanted him to live to bless us with more stuff cause he was changing the landscape of hip-hop every time he released a new album or beat-tape.
