is that a good chunk of the songs were already released on the prior Hiatus Kaiyote albums. I'm a huge fan of the band though, so my interest for this is piqued.

I saw the tracklist and was like, "Oh, this is really just an EP." I'll probably cop but I'm not all that excited about it.

it's like the guitar is only a minor assistance, because her harmonies and back vocals are the stars.

IMO, she should have totally stripped the track down so it's just herself and the acoustic guitar. The background singers and her layered vocals muddy the waters too much. Other than that, this is a pretty solid album. It takes a while to stop comparing this to a Hiatus Kaiyote album, but once you judge the album on it own merits, it clicks.
I do wonder if the newer tracks on here will end up on the next Hiatus Kaiyote album.

The way she layers up vocal arrangements. Really interesting and warm.
In fact, I would love to hear stripped down versions of D'Angelo songs, with just the main instrument (usually piano/keys) and his layers upon layers of vocals.
I found a collection of MP3's that were audiotracks of Nai Palm explaining what each of the songs from Choose Your Weapon were. Even after she explained her lyrics, I still didn't know what the songs were about. I gather for the most part, the lyrics are from deeply personal memories and events that make sense for her individually; if they connect concretely for the listener, that's just a bonus IMO.
I'm guessing the commentary tracks were for spotify since I've heard of other artists doing the same for their respective works, but I could be wrong.

20. "White vinyl variant from Music On Vinyl." In response to Reply # 0
For folks that are interested, Music On Vinyl recent released a white vinyl variant of this album. You'll have to hunt around to find an actual store to buy it as Music On Vinyl doesn't offer a way to purchase their products directly from them.
