Writing music is still songwriting. Taupin wrote the lyrics, the melodies and shit is still all Elton.

>Writing music is still songwriting.

Writing music is music writing.
Without Taupin, that's all he has.
Songs have words.

>Taupin wrote the lyrics,
>the melodies and shit is still all Elton.

This I know... which is why I asked the question.
They can be called a songwriting team, but lyrics
are a component of songs. By definition, Taupin
wrote songs (poems meant to be set to music).
John set them to music.

You are giving way too much weight to lyrics in it's role for what is called 'songwriting'.

which take on another meaning such as the song 'Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again" - yuk!

He wouldn't be in my top ten, but the songs are really catchy and upbeat. Although there wasn't that much I liked from the glam rock era, my sister and I used to really like listening to Gary Glitter and the Glitter Band, and they were huge in the UK.

Although I don't go out of my way to play his stuff, I can't deny that when I hear it I enjoy listening to it - but then I seem to be one of those people who can separate the personal life from the actual music.

I always assumed it was their keyboard player. They certainly have some very well-written songs and probably get overlooked for this because of their teeny-bop image.

every album shows the credits as "all songs written by Duran Duran".

I think that's awesome, as it keeps the bullshit to a minimum.
