"UNSUNG: Patrice Rushen (February 17, 2016)"

It's on tonight!

She's one of my dad's friends going back to the 70's, so I'm hyped to see this. She went to Locke High, who easily has the deepest musical history in L.A....Ndugu Chancelor, Tyrese, Kamasi Washington, Reggie Andrews (has taught there forever), Rickey Minor, Dell Atkins, Gerald Albright, Terrace Martin, Jeff Suttles, and plenty others went there. She's currently the head of the Popular Music department at USC.

I'm most interested in what the commercials hinted about the Jazz purists being mad that she "sold out" since she did come from being deeper on the Jazz side than Pop/R&B/Disco.

Just the way it was presented. Everybody has heard the gay rumors for years, and he's always denied them.

They mention it on Unsung, and when they ask him, he gets feisty as SHIT and says "I am one hundred and fifty THOUSAND percent heterosexual!!!!!"

I'm like....150,000%???? That's so extra that you GOTTA be hiding something, man

Miles Daviss got tired of playing the same old standards and he went on to do "someday my prince will come" cats got tired of doing the standards and wanted to just play something different.

Miles Davis, John Coltrane, the crusaders, herbie hancock, george benson, etc,,,, got the same haterade for dabbling in both and all.

Quincy Jones did it big time and some folks still hate on him for it til this day.

jazz heads are as rough as Hip Hop heads and yet the jazz heads are hardcore snobs and will turn both nose and eyebrows at you like you stink. attitude is foul man.

however Patrice showcased it all and never stopped doing it all rounded. she gets madd props

I actually subbed at Locke a couple weeks ago and wondered if a lot of famous alum came from there. The campus itself is big as shit and flooded with students (2000+). I am sure it's changed dramatically from the days when most of the talent went there.

Patrice is one of my all time favorites. I'll try to find a link of the segment online.
