that's a pretty flimsy standard for "don't need us no more"


"Don't need us" is NO prominence at all for years (if not decades).


I mean if funk only fell off FOR THE FIRST TIME this year then it was AROUND before that first time that it fell off this year, right?


Who expected funk to be around the mainstream in 2015?

"uptown funk" is also a "bastion" as far as "mainstream funk" is concerned ("uptown funk" was a major hit so.....)


but....


It seems some "pivoting" is going on, and the article doesn't matter much...if it ever did for the purposes of this post.
